tl;dr; Provide an option to silence incoming calls from private numbers or give them an instant hangup.

Little did I know about the true price when I subscribed to Financial Times...

I am being haunted by telemarketers that call from private numbers. I have absolutely no interest in talking to anyone who is unwilling the reveal their own number. Therefore, I'd like my phone to not even make a sound or leave a trace of missed calls from private numbers. It's frustrating to take your gloves off outside at -20 and flip the cover open just because yet another devil's advocate wants to oppress you.

This of course would be optional.

I see. Didn't find that when searching for topics related to private numbers. What's a little disappointing is that nothing has happened regarding this topic in two years.

You might give it some visibility by adding your suggestion as an answer there. I find it an excellent feature, which I have searched for myself.
