Since the port of Sailfish OS is evaluating with big steps (Thanks to @vgrade and @yacuken) and popularity is rising, people want to have the full Sailfish OS experience on the Oneplus One. So this is a request from an oneplus one user to get acces to the official Jolla Store.

I flashed Jolla sailfish os in oneplus one. It's a marvelous experience. I request to support the Jolla sailfish port to opo and help the developers like vgrade, so that we can have Jolla sailfish full experience.

Don't think it will happen. Jolla's current business model is to license their phone to mobile makers. If the community supported edition has all features as the licensed Sailfish OS, why would OnePlus makers be interested in paying Jolla? Secondly, some mobile makers may even turn hostile towards Jolla if they believe Jolla is pushing their OS on their phones without their approval. Preinstalled / Bundled apps are one other way these mobile makers make money and if you install some other OS, they lose any recurring income from such tie-ups. Ideally we would all like Jolla to sell us the license directly, but I guess there's more money in licensing it to the cell manufacturers and bundling ads / spywares in the OS ...

@sifartech you might be right. but then, do you think Jolla could consider selling a real license to oneplus users ? I'd like to pay one to have a well running sailfish on my oneplus phone. I was a happy user of paranoid android on my oneplus one but when oneplus decided to hire some of the paranoid team to create oxygen os, the oneplus version of paranoid was left abandoned. ota also stopped working. I have been considering buy a jolla phone but when I heard that a port of sailfish was in sight, I thought I could continue to use this wonderfull phone which is the oneplus one. for jolla, a big part of the port has already been done by (marvelous magician) vgrade, all they have to do is working a bit with him (or him with them) to help finish it. is it a stupid idea ?

@jp.vitulli - Oh, I agree completely with you! I have been insisting from day 1 (since I became a Jolla phone owner), that Jolla should sell the OS license directly to us users. But we can only speculate why Jolla doesn't choose this route to monetise their business. In some ways, we Indians are more lucky then most others elsewhere because the next officially licensed Sailfish OS phone will be released in India (Aquafish from Intex). While I badly want to buy that phone (when it will be released) I still have huge doubts about it because the Sailfish OS in this new phone will also have stupid built-in 'partner feed' / 'advertisement feature' (called super apps - details abut this are sketchy though). We can only hope better sense prevails ... and maybe OnePlus might also change their mind and decide to partner with Jolla ...

I don't think this rap that OEMs wouldn't like Sailfish Os porting is true. Look at CyanogenMod, MIUI, TencentOs, YunOs... And they are going stronger everyday.

All it takes is Jolla's good will to make porting work and gather some market share.

A lot of develpers are working hard to support more devices and a lot of users are becoming interested in sailfish. This is an opportunity Jolla should not miss. Open the store for all ports!

Jolla cannot add the 'official' store to community ports for (1) security (they won't have control over community builds) and (2) Jolla's business model is to sell phone license. If Official store and Jolla apps are made available to community builds too, then why would mobile makers pay Jolla for a license - they may as well just use the free community build (like OnePlus does now with Android). OnePlus users should actually contact OnePlus and demand that they want official Sailfish OS on their OnePlus phones.

Hello Jolla people!

As a Sailfish lover, I'd like to kindly ask you to allow us to join the Jolla store so many users will be able to enjoy the sailfish experience.

Hopefully, ppl in the future will have the option to easly move from Android to Sailfish and hopefully Jolla will make this easy for us :)

I am willing to pay for apps in the same way as is done for other platforms. I am also willing to donate to Mer via vgrade or other porter.

Hi Everyone, I've heard a lot about Jolla and finally I got to try it on my OnePlus One (thanks to Vgrade & Jolla Devs), it's a new and unique experience and probably a fully working port is on the way, lastly I've been using Warehouse for apps but it'd be awesome if you guys consider adding official Jolla store support to OnePlus One. This will boost the app development in the Jolla ecosystem as there are many curious users and developers waiting to try it on their oneplus one SlipperClutch (just now)edit

I think you should be more realistic. Jolla has employees, they need salary. This means that Jolla needs money. Jolla does not have application store with paid applications, so the only way they can get their money is for OS (or their own device+OS). If they give you this for free, they would have no money and there would be no Jolla Sailfish OS. If they give it to you for free, others won't be willing to pay them for it (like Intex or others). I understand that you want fully working Sailfish OS on your phone, but it would not help Jolla, so it would not help you in long term.

maybe they finally should start with paid apps and earn money

True, but with this small userbase they would not be able to make a living from that anyway

mihlit ( 2016-02-12 13:03:53 +0300 )edit

and selling the ports? or at least the access to the store on a ported device?

Bavarian ( 2016-02-13 12:37:59 +0300 )edit

Jolla making money by selling devices is a joke these days. The can't deliver in reasonable time, so maybe they are not interested in selling devices, at all. The store could probably be a pay store too, if they was interested in that.

A good way may be providing a possibility to purchase an official image for popular devices. So the OPO-people get the full-featured SFOS they are demanding and Jolla can raise some money. Win-win.

I have an idea. What if someone who has access to official Jolla store download all apps to external repository? Of course it requires some work to make something like unofficial store, but I think it is worth the efforts.
