Reasons to prefer a Jolla over an Apple [subjective]

This post is a wiki. Anyone with karma >75 is welcome to improve it.
It would be great if all those who come here to rant and rave at Jolla for being uncaring and deceitful - or for Sailfish OS being buggy or limited - could please take a long hard look at the way Apple are treating their customers. Thank you.
Here are a few links to get started with:
- iPhones 'disabled' if Apple detects third-party repairs
- Who would code a self-destruct feature into their own web browser? Oh, hello, Apple
Apple pushing music labels to kill free Spotify streaming ahead of Beats relaunch
- You aren't forced to backup your data to a cloud
- You don't need a credit card to create a Store account
- If something goes wrong, you can use recovery mode. On Fruit Mobiles you are forced to factory reset without a way to backup your data
- You can access your filesystem (and move files without iTunes or other software)
- SD card
- You don't lose your warranty if you modify the software (meanwhile jailbreaking iFruits is illegal in some countries IIRC)
- Patches (related to above)
- You can do whatever you want if you know how
- TOH! Hardware keyboards!
- Screws. Seriously, iFruits are just a bunch of components glued together
- Changeable SIM card
- Unlocked bootloader
- User removable battery
- Long support

jollailija ( 2016-02-06 09:30:02 +0200 )edit@jollailija, not that I disagree with you, but in the interest of balance,
- With a (forced?) cloud backup, you do not lose data on a factory reset ;-)
pichlo ( 2016-02-06 10:22:59 +0200 )edit@pichlo some data is backuped for Apple, so you loose it on a reset, just Apple doesn't :D
chemist ( 2016-02-06 12:56:12 +0200 )edit@pichlo What if I don't want to save my stuff to the cloud (there is actually no cloud, you are just saving your stuff on a strangers computer)?
jollailija ( 2016-02-06 16:38:18 +0200 )editAlso, you can't backup everything, and even if you could, you'd have to pay for extra storage.
On the Jolla you can just tar your home folder (and the folder with app databases) onto the sd card and you are basically golden.
Come on, you two. Has none of you noticed my smiley at the end? ;-)
