USB Drivers missing for Recovery Mode
Jolla is still giving this : https://jolla.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/204709607-Miten-k%C3%A4yt%C3%A4n-Recovery-Modea-
1) Windows works a treat, which is sad as I have not normally Windows running in my household 2) Linux....It is likely that you won't need to download any additional software to use Recovery Mode.... The unlikely event could be described a little bit (better). On my latest Kubuntu distri, the phone was not recognized at all 3) MacOS....You will find out soon that probably all Mac users, who do ordinary home use of their computer, will update instantly, when updates are available. Hence no support for El Capitan.
For future commercial success I consider it vital that USB drivers are properly available for major systems and if not developed inhouse by Jolla, at least a working link would be desireable.
Your title doesn't really describe your question, could you change that?
jollailija ( 2016-02-08 10:41:54 +0200 )editIsn't USB networking just RNDIS? That would be Apple delivering a non-working RNDIS on El Capitan (just googled it).
chemist ( 2016-02-08 10:50:21 +0200 )edit@jollailija, is that clearer now? @chemist As far as I can find-out in Google, even in previous versions there was not native support for that. I also fully understand that a third party free opensource driver will not be adapted to a higher version just like that. As Jolla is selling a phone which requires such a connection for the recovery, it would come handy if they delivered a driver. Or at least think of something else to recover the phone. An Android device you can usually factory reset without all that hassle.
rgraeflin ( 2016-02-08 11:17:26 +0200 )edit@rgraeflin what else would you do than just having a very common networking driverstack? Apple needs something specifically made for them, just like their hardware is incompatible with everything else... them not providing support out of the box is actually the problem, not Jolla using a driver that is pretty much used with every other usbnetworking device. I am no RNDIS advocate here, I do not like it either, but you are ringing on the wrong door. Get a pendrive with linux on it and boot from it, sometimes you have to swim the distance! http://www.howtogeek.com/213396/how-to-boot-a-linux-live-usb-drive-on-your-mac/
chemist ( 2016-02-08 14:52:35 +0200 )edit@chemist Maybe that's exactly the reason Sailfish OS, especially Jolla is struggling. It's full with enthusiasts like you, who swim not only the extra mile but the extra 10 miles if required. I for myself have bought a phone. I even swam to try it under Linux. I actually consider Kubuntu as a valid candidate. I understand that community is trying to help to work around, however, an ordinary phone user will want an out of the box solution and I am offering a request in this direction. I see absolutely no point why Apple should offer anything to the open source community they are a purely commercial company, however it is not impossible offer solutions for Apple. Even Sony managed to give me a piece of software to handle my Xperia on a Mac. No I am customer of Jolla and as a customer I am ringing on the suppliers door. If all my proposals are indirectly answered by "if you are not willing to Google, or install a Linuxsystem, you ought not use a Jolla Phone", then this whole Jolla Together is for nothing. I clearly explained what I tried and what worked and what I tried and worked not ! I think I made the point, that Linux didn't work. Jolla wants to become more than a Geek solution? Then they must improve and they have installed Jolla Together not just to help each other, but also to improve. Apple doesn't require Jolla at all, hence they have nothing to drive them to get compatible with it. Jolla on the other hand would do very well to be compatible and easy in handling. Thanks for the thumb down anyway!
