Hello all and Jolla Team,

currently for the tablet issue, for those who don't have a tablet it would be ask for a refund or donation (if no reaction to refund mail).
But for me an aspect is not observed.
In both cases jolla don't deliver a tablet, and people wanted a tablet with sfos.

I don't want to discuss about the past. What was the problems, what failure did jolla or others.
Don't want to discuss about old promises.
But just for one thing, the one that jolla wanted to deliver a tablet with sfos.
And let us discuss about other alternatives for this.
In my eyes there are other ones, and i'm curious if jolla and the community are ready to give an eye on it.

One of it could be the next one:
As you know the community and the jolla team make a real effort to port the other to already existing tablets.

Some are near of 100%.
There is some firms on world business which are specialized to recycle devices to bring it back, with interesting prices. (Currently i have nothing serious, i must inform myself about good ones).

From my side currently, i would not be indisposed having an asus zenpad or aigo tablet, instead of the original one.
If jolla could work with some business to get existing tablet as good port candidate and deliver it the bakers.

If we see the hardware of the good port candidates and the original jolla one. There is not so much a differences.

Other possibility is with destocking hardware (means never shipped, not used and was only placed in a stock): for example here in cdiscount. We can find the asus (good sfos port candidate) between 100€ and 200€.

Maybe it is a uninteresting idea, but indeed could be a good one.
But it is a kind to see the problem in other aspect.
I can't decide for the jolla team and for the community, that's clear. But maybe there is an other good alternative one.
Let's discuss about it.

I agree more or less. All IGG backers did want and I guess most of them still do want a tablet with SFOS. I understand that this company can't actually produce the hardware, so ok, get some hardware elsewhere. And me as a supporter is a bit disturbed by the explanation. "the money went on SW development so that it can be run on the new HW": but there is no HW to run it on... sounds a bit cynical to me. But anyway , as you point out , the top priority should be finding a HW alternative. If the repay money goes in that directly, optionally, or back to me and then to another company , doesn't really matter to me. I'm more concerned about the ever returning and the non being fixed bugs, which make the use of this otherwise pretty cool OS annoying.

@Cary Grant thx very much for explain your impression, that's really interesting. I understand how this situation sounds to you. i think i have not the good words to react on it, otherwise to tell in other words what you explain. We are on a pretty Cornelian dilemma... I'll be glad when this time will be gone (and jolla either too i think).

For me that looks like an interesting idea. But for sure, Jolla will not jump directly into a new hardware adventure.

On the other hand, maybe they could find such a refurbisher, who is willing to do this with SFOS. If Jolla could focus on porting to one dedicated device, that is easily available in larger amounts, there might be a way. And this looks like something, that is without too much of risk for both parties. But maybe there are limitations to what is possible / allowed to do with the old devices. That is out of my knowlege.

I don't think, it is a good idea to make it a replacement for the igg backers. But it could be something to sell an show off the possibilities.

I understand what you mean with it. I think a lot's of people wouldn't do that. But it could be some people who are interested to a good one alternative if they knows that is one from destocking (means never shipped, not used and stayed in a stock). With equivalent hardware level. Maybe this people would say yes if there is such an alternative. I can't speak for every one, just for me. But i know that if i'm agree, some other are agree too. The question is, how many of them could be agreed?

@cemoi71 The point is to find a way for Jolla "out of the rough sea". And I think, your idea is worth to be enhanced. IMHO the most important thing is, to show possible business partners what SFOS can do and how it works on different platforms. And recycling of unused electronics might also be an interesting sign to the world. What we need is to look over the hedge and collect new and unlike ideas.

@silmoc :-) to be enhanced or to be improved. i'm curious if someone could bring more info about partner for recycling or destocking. currently i know just a french one, but its business is just for smartphone (recommerce solutions). There are surely many more of them, but that's so new market. By searching on google, can't be sure if some are serious one... That's not my daily business ;-) but i'm sure, that could be a really interested way

@cemoi71 When seeing all those guys, needing the newest and hippest phone every other year, I believe there must be a large amount of unused "outdated" smartphones out there. This should really be a business. And there are a few SFOS ports done already, so it shouldn't be that hard thing to do. But it still needs some money to be invested...

I went for the IGG Jolla tablet the day it was announced for Australia delivery. I'm glad the tablet deal fell over a cliff and that the money was spent on improving Sailfish OS2. If I get a refund GOOD, if not SO SAD. In 2015 only 47 Million tablets were sold worldwide against 1,400 Million smartphones. Jolla did not play the percentages - if they persisted with phones only, we could have had something viable by now - not wasting time, resourses and money redeveloping a different (Intel) platform. In hindsight it was destined to fail or at best only sell it's initial 10,000 units - no body wants Tablets, especially considering there are so many good mid spec'd 5.5" to 6" smartphones available today and at a resonable price. (my Oppo R7 plus is just one example but higher spec'd ones from other makers for only a couple of hundred dollars more) The Jolla 1 phone was a proof of concept device to spur interest - albeit very average and under spec'd - I never bought one. I went for Sailfish OS2 - FIRST AND FOREMOST - with the tablet being the only viable option at the time. Jolla can keep my money as long as they provide a workable Sailfish smartphone solution in the near future.

Thank you for your input, but I think they made it clear. They are out of the hardware business and they want to concentrate on the Software. At least this is what I have understood the last month I'm following the ongoing situations.

Actually I'm looking forward receiving my money back as there is coming out a new LINUX Tablet which is worth looking at.

@megalith yes i understood in this way too. but after thinking, how would they bring their os if they don't find any concrete hardware?
People don't buy an empty tablet. rarely they buy one (with android or windows) to directly replace with their loved one. How could they do it?
Tablets are sold with os pre-installed...
Sfos without official tablet is uninteresting
Have you see the announcement of ubuntu tablet?

concerning to me, i participated to the igg action, to be sure that later (in long term aspect) it would be a greater choice of tablets. but first it should be the first one realized.

Idea is for jolla to present a third alternative to the issue tablet.
as soon as possible, from given link there is tablet which have 100% portability (currently it is not but really near of it).
Maybe could jolla find a partner whos business is destocking or recycling (repair and resold), then could fournish a ported-tablet one instead of refund

I would be very interested to get one of the first manufacterer phones like turing or intex instead if the tablet delivery will fail ;)

I don't think that we can be interested in any of the branded phones. Not only will they come with the licensees special offerings, services, branding and UI/UX concepts; moreover will these devices never ever allow activating developers mode as they cannot allow to give up controlling the device.

Intex wants to sell their AquaFish as a mass device. They would kill their helpdesk infrastructure if they would sell rooted devices. Turing fully focus on maximum security (so they say), so cannot give up any degree of maximum control for this sole reason.

The only benefit that we can hope for in regards to licensing agreements of branded devices is that they might help Jolla to build up a sustainable business model to finance the further development of the only worthwhile mobile OS around.

What WE need is a different kind of partnership of Jolla with some hardware provider to produce versions of their devices running an untainted Jolla supported SFOS as Jollas reference devices. Those could be special editions of fully licensed community ports.

Best candidates for such a partnership in my opinion would be obviously FairPhone and possibly PuzzlePhone.

@DieUnwucht well thought i think. and why not a big and known constructor who want to change something?. under the asus htc sony lg huawei wiko xiaomi honor bq zte meizu, there will be surely one who want to have a little bit change to differentiate itself with the others.
