Yesterday is tryed 1,5 h to connect my Jolla via MTP to my Ubuntu. Yes you guess right it doesn´t work. Please give us an aditional good old "Connect as USB Massstorrage device" mode. This can give us an fast and reliable connection type.

I've been using MTP successfully, also on Ubuntu since at least 12.04. Default Ubuntu installations handle MTP just fine in Nautilus (default file browser).

If you don't like MTP, you should try the network mode (enabled as part of developer mode) and e.g. SSHfs or rsync or one of the many other networked transfer methods.

Canned answer: the Mass Storage Device Class protocol provides access to the media on sector level. Ergo,

  1. the device cannot use the memory that is shown to the PC, otherwise filesystem will be horribly corrupted
  2. the device must use a filesystem which the (usually lame) OS can understand.

Nokia N9 solved (1) by using a separate partition for documents and unmounting this partition every time you connect it to PC. As a result you could have 20 GiB free space on this partition and be unable to install new apps, because the (separate) root partition was full. And because of (2) this partition has to use the piss-poor FAT32 filesystem (which was already obsolete even when it was born).

So, not gonna happen.
