OS for passionate peoples canbe make this will enhance the porting and marketing. example OS with the theme for music lovers , software programmers, businessman, engineers, photographers, general, travelers, all in one, social like that. user will choose and port it to match there requirement.

The main problem is that there is no standard hardware to sell OS for. Even if Jolla would sell an OS for an Android phone the user will break warranty rules installing it. It is not like a PC or Laptop that You can buy without OS then install it Yourself. I think that is the main limit of the smartphone OS business.
You just can not buy hardware.
This is why Jolla needed a phone in the first place. Ant this is why lacking a new phone limits the future.
i'm a little bit sceptic with this argument that there is no standard hardware for specific functions.
for gamer there are some graphic chip references, like for music one too, and photographers one.
But a little firm like jolla could not struggle on different fronts with a brand new os, with its errors of youth.

Do you know what would be great? If Linux on phones became (like) Linux on desktops: you could have multiple desktop environments and run whatever applications you'd like from any repositories. I suppose with 64-bit phones this could happen sooner or later.
