How do I set a custom notification sound in Settings? [answered]

I want to customise a notification sound. How do I do this through the Settings application? I tried placing a .wav file in Ringtones (which seems like the appropriate place), but the only choices that show up when I go to change the IM notification sound are the songs in the Music directory and the ones on the SD card, and Jolla's default notification sounds. Surely I don't have to put my preferred notification sound under Music, as that would cause it to show up in the music player as well?

Depending on what exactly you are planning to change, the best is to browse a bit through the configuration of the non-graphical feedback daemon found in /usr/share/ngfd, to get a general overview.

At the time, editing those files is the only way to fine-tune sounds and vibration behaviour of the phone. A GUI for configuring ngfdwould come in handy (requested here: https://together.jolla.com/question/83453/gui-for-configuring-non-graphical-feedback/), as there is not much documentation to be found either.

Alternatively you could just change files in /usr/share/sounds/jolla-ambient/stereo. But don't forget to save the originals, just in case. :)

Thanks, I probably didn't make it clear but I'm just trying to change the IM notification sound through the Settings, and I can't figure out how to actually do it, the only things that show up as choices are Jolla's default sounds and the songs I have in the Music directory, but I don't want a 4 minute long IM notification, and I don't want my preferred IM notification sound to be detected in the Music player either.

I don't think there is an option except putting your audio file into Music directory. Not an easy option through the Settings application, any way.

My workaround was to create my own ambience folder with audio files, background image, .ambience file and sounds.index. Then send the whole kit into the ambience directory.

That gave me access to my audio files from any ambience in settings application.
