Just a thought and I suppose a question. Like many I am obviously disappointed to not likely be receiving a Jolla Tablet. We obviously supported the project on indiegogo because we believed in the vision. Now that a refund is on the cards I would like to propose an alternative option, what about the option for an intex aqua fish instead of a refund. The difficulty for many of us to be able to purchase one of these phones will be high so why not get it in a few more people's hands to spread the vision.

I don't think that would work out as people expected a different form factor, not a second smartphone. Also, the Intex is hardly superior to the existing jPhone. Unless your jPhone is broken, I don't see a benefit of owning two smartphones with roughly the same performance. The Fairphone 2 would eventually make a difference as it has way more ooomph and it originates from a Project whose cause is worth supporting.

Also I expect any device from the consumer licensing line of SFOS to be crippleware (e.g. without developer mode) with added advertising platform (partner space/super apps).

These devices are not made for us. We have to strive for community ports, possibly picked up by Jolla to provide full-scale support. From the press release as of yesterday this will be the FairPhone2. No other devices on the horizon, sorry.

And, yes, @kryca is right that a phone is anyway not meeting the expected form factor of the IGG contributors. This also rules the upcoming JWatch out as an alternative offering.

@stevenandree what do you means with it? a phone ? or a tablet? intex make tablet too?

I haven't seen anything apart from the phone announcement at MWC.

I take your points about not wanting a second phone. I don't mean to come across as this is the only refund option, I just think Jolla could be more creative with their options and this would probably be a better outcome for them financially and the consumer.

I personally don't want out of this system and continue to run Jolla on my n5. I really wanted the tablet, but I would settle for other options that gave me a Jolla or licensing partners product. Maybe they could even negotiate a subsidy with fairphone. Just ideas.

It's hilarious how people downvote a perfectly fine and informative answer.

Butthurt much?

Let's see when we get our money ... And for how long this will move on.

@ScumCoder It's probably because this particular poster has spent the better part of a year constantly spamming the comments section to EVERY Jolla blog post and these forums. Whenever there's a new post on the blog you're pretty much guaranteed that this poster will have moaned about the refund in those comments within an hour or two of the blog post going up. He actually thinks that there should be bi-weekly updates as to the refund even when there's nothing new to report.

The problem is that we contributed more to the Indiegogo campaign then the costs of the Aquafish Smartphone. And according to the chosen perk we contributed different amounts for the tablet, and some of us (like me) took the 64 GB Upgrade as well. Would be unfair to just get the phone. But it would indeed be a good idea to get the phone as part of the refund (means shipping a phone and lowering the financial refund for phone interested contributors)...

I'm glad you get what I'm suggesting and obviously this wouldn't be everyone's preference.

I get it would be hard work to organise from Jollas perspective. But at least it might be a win win for some people and not leave all of us having to settle with the options from the duopoly

stevenandree ( 2016-02-25 13:23:01 +0300 )edit

@Cryx I don't believe people would actually start counting cents if receiving an Aqua Fish without additional effort were an option. It's really just too much work for Jolla IMHO.

ossi1967 ( 2016-02-25 14:05:07 +0300 )edit

you cant call approximatly half the price (depending on the igg distribution) 'cents'.

michel ( 2016-02-25 14:56:33 +0300 )edit

@michel It's not that much of a difference - I include the handling and service into the calculation. And i tend to give tips. €100, €200, ... all the same price range.

thing is cent means 'a hundredth of' not 'plus hundred' so weather for you it might be not a big difference (which i doubt most people agree with) or not you might chose a better terminology. I would rather spend that 200€ as voucher for a fairphone or probably puzzlephone ( a real upgrade to the Jolla) than buying a aquafish with it.

I was thinking about it, but due to the price difference I would like to get 2 Aqua Fishes instead of the tablet, the second one serving as a backup in case I have to send the first one to assistance in India.

why don't u simply buy 2 aqua fishes with the refunded money? Most likely the issue for Jolla would be the warranty and thats pretty much all benefit you would get from that deal. But would you send your phone to india for repair anyway?

michel ( 2016-02-25 15:02:45 +0300 )edit

Because: a) I cannot buy any Aqua Fish from where I live (Italy) b) I have not received any refund And I would send the phone to India for repair, provided I have a backup.

@Edz

Thank you. Some say the refund program is all because of me, some say we all triggered it together as one voice. But I want to believe Jolla actually wants to do the right thing even after all negative things people put in place trying to stop it, as irrelevant for Jolla! Btw. Why is this thread header flagged as "Not relevant" when it's very much a great place for sailfishers to bound together. Embarrassing to say atleast.

Well, I have 2 jolla phones and I need a tablet. Somebody know for which tablet the Sailfish port is most advanced? Most promising?

edit flag offensive delete publish link more

Comments

Well there are people who ordered the chinese "Jolla" tablet and managed to install Jolla Store and Android support on them, so they are the "most advanced" non-official tablets atm.

Anyone got a 2nd refund note from Jolla during july? Please check in here so we don't have to guess if Jolla do any refunds or not.

Thank you.

I have relaxed for like 3 years and still waiting and still no full refund. No way, I will donate with that track record. It might be summer but Jolla said July. They don't now about vacations? One refund to random backer to much to ask for? Maybe, maybe not.

Jolla aims to be profitable by the end of this year (or the next), so there's a chance. Considering from China something like 250 M might come in, that increases the probability as well.

tortoisedoc ( 2017-03-15 20:52:10 +0300 )edit

250 M? From what? Licenses? I'm sceptical. But it would be welcoming since jolla could afford to bail out it self from the scam.

Wait another year or two for full refund would be not so Epic. But what can you do when jolla stallling. Always look at the bright side of redunds
