Can you please help me retrieve my lost photos?
All of my photos just disappeared from my Jolla phone a few weeks ago! This happened although I had only selected a few of them for deletion.
First of all, can you please explain how this might have happened?
And, most importantly, can you please help me retrieve my lost photos? I tried to do this by using Photorec and Foremost on Ubuntu. But my system doesn't recognize my Jolla in either the Disk Utility or the Terminal.
I would be very grateful for your help!
Have you checked, if they are really gone? Or are they just not shown in the Gallery app?
Fellfrosch ( 2016-02-27 14:29:33 +0200 )edit@thomas-benjamin You can compile/install Photorec on your Jolla if you want ;-) Let us know if you need some help with that.

Either download Sailfish Utilities from Jolla Store and initiate Refresh Media Database or open terminal on the device and type in;

be patient, it takes a few moments before anything shows again in Gallery, especially when using Sailfish Utilites - a notification quickly says "OK, All done", then you look in Gallery and see zero images and zero videos - simply because tracker hasn't quite finished.I know it's not really helpful because it's postulating an additional level of complexity, but you should never try a data recovery with the original media. Always dd it first to a safe place, then make a copy of this image, then mount the copy and treat it with your recovery tools. https://together.jolla.com/question/125773/dump-entire-internal-device-memory/http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/132797/how-to-dd-a-remote-disk-using-ssh-on-local-machine-and-save-to-a-local-diskhttps://major.io/2010/12/14/mounting-a-raw-partition-file-made-with-dd-or-dd_rescue-in-linux/
Robomike ( 2016-02-28 10:16:36 +0200 )editFirst of all, thanks ever so much for all of your kind and helpful answers!
@Fellfrosch, yes, I've checked, double-, triple, and quadruple-checked if my photos are still in nemo/Pictures/Camera. But they aren't unfortunately.
@ced117, ah, I didn't know you can install Photorec on your Jolla! Yes, could you tell me how to do that?
@Markkyboy, does it make sense to Refresh Media Database even if the photos aren't in nemo/Pictures/Camera? If it does, is this method sufficient and is the use of Photorec not necessary here?
@Robomike, do you mean to say that I should do a safe data recovery with an application like Photorec using Ubuntu for example? The thing is that my Ubuntu system doesn't recognize my Jolla in either the Disk Utility or the Terminal.
