As of today, i'm only able to set loudness for a special ambience. I'd love to be able setting additional options e.g Bluetooth on/off, WLAN on/off and so on. Maybe even location- or time based? Would be a perfect profile-app :-)

Ideas for actions:

  • toggling connectivity
    • wifi
    • mobile data
    • bluetooth
    • airplane mode
  • vibration on/off system wide or per notification type
  • changing IM online status
  • changing screen brightness

I think i saw that on a video from M.Dillon back in Summer before they had to switch HW. Hopefully coming in an update

I have proposed similar thing here: https://together.jolla.com/question/632/themes-not-just-ambiences/

I would like to have more options to tune the visual aspect: controls style, blurring effects, panels opacity and so on. Qt and QML supports theme, so make full use of them

I wish implemention is basic options for "common people" and extra options for tuners in different page. One basic option could be ear plug volume level.

It's good that you can change the ringing and alarm tones in your own created ambiences, but it's missing an option to change the notification sound settings (and other settings found in Sounds and feedback). I would like to have all of those settings in ambience settings as well.

Before becoming overambitious, first and foremost I'd like Ambience to control:

  • silent mode vs. non-silent (inc vibration setting)
  • online/away/offline of chat networks
  • whitelist of allowed-to-come-in calls (optionally also SMS:s)

I would agree that the idea of Ambience needs to enable a few more things. Your idea of the parts of the device that should be able to be managed via an Ambience are indeed good. But, let's take it a bit further... for example, you mentioned profiles - Ambience should be a combination of profiles, settings, and perhaps calendar/location settings, along with things such as most-used contacts w/contact methods, most accessed apps/services that an Ambience being enabled/disabled makes happen.

Bonus points if the concept of Ambience can be triggered by taking a photo of something in your local environment and then the device adjusts:

  • for example, if I take a picture of something that looks like a sauna, the device doesn't just change the color, but the sounds become something like the steam, water, etc. from the sauna. An auto-message is enabled which says you might be occupied, w/a picture of said sauna.

In a sense, asking Ambience to be able to be triggered by more than just an image loaded to the device, but what it enables/disables/changes, being triggered by some local understanding of environments. This opens Ambience-logic packs to be made, and then it becomes more than just changing settings, but a means of knowledge sharing on a level that only happens when that Ambience is enabled.

Follow-on from https://together.jolla.com/question/1319/additional-options-for-ambience/

As there is still no improvement with 2.0.1.11, I consider this request worth a push as the ambience selection currently is somewhat useless and without any added value. As one of the advertised core functions of SFOS this should become a higher priority.

Screenshot taken from hands-on video at MWC 2015 presenting Sailfish OS 2.0 demo user interface on a Nexus 5. Demo-units showed various Ambience-actions (only non-working mock-ups). This would be a great implementation for those actions and increase importance of ambiences.

What happened to this thing? This feature was never released! I'd love to have ambiances be more powerful.

Hi i posted a question that was duplicate with this :

I agree that it would be nice to have more options in the ambiance settings like :

What i miss as ambiance is to change the behavior of my phone, not only theme and sound ...

I would like to activate really quickly bluetooth for ex.

It use a lot of power and i don't use it all the time to save power.

So what i see :

I see differents ambiance to use on the day :

"dejeuner" : news app, wheather app ,calendar, email, ... "in the car" , i need bluetooth + navigation app , app voice reading my sms ?... "at work" : wifi, agenda, no more bluetooth, emails , .... "at home " needs wifi, media player" "night mode "silent mode" ..... .....

So ambiance would be as it is now + general settings for phone + apps to load ...

Some manufacters propose this behavior with NFC, but i think it's more usuable directly from ambiance ...

What do you think of ?

For me jolla team make a lot of work and i'm proud to use it ! That behavior should be an unlike possibility ;-)

can someone from jolla give us a idea of the possibility of this and the planning .

Thanks ;-)

That kind of complex usage is exactly what I also dream about. Like I posted above, I'm wishing for control over silent mode (including vibration or not), online status for chat networks and enabling whitelist of allowed (audible) callers or SMS senders.

The reason is exactly those different situations you mention like at work, night mode etc, but each one has personal needs.

Yes! Mirv, spot on, hopefully we will see that come to sailfish.

@makarch - nope, consider the whole ambience thing "abandoned".

Spam Hunter ( 2018-05-27 15:13:28 +0300 )edit

Thats sad, because it could be such a cool feature

agreed, I also believe that was the original intention for Ambience, according to an ex-staffer Jaakko Roppola, "ambience could be so much more......". I took an interest in learning to develop ambience, especially coming from a Nokia N9, all I wanted was a black background with white text, but ambience makes a muddy mess with its colouring algorithm and does not allow white to be expressly chosen/picked, but, I did with help, produce Ambience AllBlack found on openrepos. The problem is, the back end of ambienced.service is closed source, so development is not easy, at least not for me still being very much a novice coder. Things have changed over the last 5 years, the end user is no longer footing the bills - how can we anyway?, buying the device isn't enough!, so it is investors who are calling the shots and decide what gets developed - so I think it safe to say, albeit I have no concrete evidence, that ambience is indeed, abandoned - this could change if Jolla make the backend available to the public, I for one would be interested in poking around and trying new ideas.

I know this is an old answer from @Jaakko Roppola, but still, the Ambiences are ment to be much more than simple containers for ringtones and cool pictures. I'm really positive, that they will start to implement more and more features, as this has been requested a lot. :)

Workaround, but working as intended:

"Situations"-app from Jolla store, enhanced by Active Situations settings from Openrepos.

Cheers

Now that the top pulley is no longer used for switching off sounds, but now for switching ambiences (including to a silent ambience) this makes even more sense.

I'd particularly welcome being able to quickly control connectivity options via switching ambience: I guess that the options that many people might want to be able to switch quickly are data-roaming and airplane-mode. (The standard ambience look-and-feel features would make this work particularly well by making it instantly obvious which "profile" you're using).

Additionally being able to switch to a specific bluetooth connection would be ideal - (my own use for this would be to switch sound-output to my Nokia music receiver).

pedrox ( 2015-09-29 15:26:28 +0300 )edit

@pedrox you are confusing an outside swipe with an inside pull, the swipe had never anything to do with pulley menues. There is no pulley for switching ambiences, ambience-switcher2.0 is a new kind of menu called from outside the screen instead of the lock-gesture it used to be. For the controls, we all would love to have more actions. Let them role out the full 2.0 for now, there is a lot of backend stuff that is in preparation for upgrading other features as well. Your specifics are either in requests or you need to spplit them out as a request of your own. Comments usually drown and do not get recognized that much.
