according to http://reviewjolla.blogspot.co.at/2016/04/the-last-jolla-tablet-orders.html there is at least some life in jolla, which would like to implement biometrics scanner interfaces.

but i'm seriously concerned about your direction, instead of focusing on your USP (unique selling proposition), you're trying to reach out for the mainstream users.

THEY WON'T LET GO THEIR OS's, and you don't have even the slightest chance to develop something feature equivalent.

BUT: if you'd listen to your fans, and would finally implement features requested from day 1 (open source code, VPN support, SIP, improved E-Mail client, ... there are enough open questions / votes / lists open at tjc ...) you could easily grow the user-base of people willing to pay for such features.

So: what's your goal? in "symbolic words": for me it seems that you'd like to create a mag-lev train, faster/better (still different, and maybe a option if you'd have unlimited ressources) than anything yet available, whilst your costumers are convinced cyclists.

I still hope to see a change in your setting.

[edit]:

as the discussion goes into the wrong direction: https://together.jolla.com/question/64413/request-jolla-tablet-fingerprint-reader/

the suggestion is at 5 downvotes, the contradicting Answer at 11 upvotes. So it's clear that the majority of the existing userbase WON'T have that implemented, and there are dozens of feature-requests with 100+ upvotes, which are completely ignored.

biometric scanner = fingerprint reader support for phones that have it.

yes, i know what that means, but it could also be face-recognition, or something else. depends on the definition of the software interface, what's possible.

but the point is: that has been requested by 1 person, and received at least 5 downvotes. so clearly NOT what the community wants

+1 for @ApB's comment. First device that comes into my mind with such a sensor is the Turing phone. And being a security oriented device FP-reader support is quite crucial.

if i fingerprint reader is really a PLUS in security is up for discussion. (and implementation)

CCC has shown often enough that there's not that much magic needed to trick the cheap ones.

the discussion pro/contra fingerprint reader should be done in the according question, i've even linked it for you. and based on that, it seems that jolla doesn't seem to just ignore the communities wishes, but instead does exactly the opposite.

I would love to see Sailfish support biometric scanners - this would make it avalable to/usable in more devices also. Plus I hardly believe Jolla is a company to forward your data to any other party. So, I would rather use a Sailfish/Jolla device with a fingerprint reader than a bulk Android/Apple product.

This forum is full of feature requests. Some of seem recieved a remarkable number of positive votes. I would have liked to see jolla working on some of them, to give "our fan community is an integral part of us" a meaning. Afaik, jolla seems to have limited staff and they have to focus on the demands of their (possible) partners. This would not to be blamed. They have to earn some money to pay the staff.
But while there was no high demand by the community for biometrics take it as a proof for jolla is deciding all over the community. I don't feel this decision has to be comented or estimated by us. I can't feel we have very much influence.
Afaik, there is a community of users in the harbour.
Jolla just setted sail.
