First of all, Uber needs google service in order to work, I didn't get help in other posts about how to install the google service, and I didn't solve that problem completely since it still need to be updated to support other apps like Lyft.(so now the situation is that Lyft won't open and keeps sending me message"...unless you update google service" but Uber is working) However, at least now Uber is working fine on mine. Here is what I did: download the Uber app, the message" network error" will appear when you try to log in no matter what network environment you are in. The solution is to download google service on a another store like wandoujia (what I used), google service will still crash and may not serve other apps but now refresh the uber app, it's working

Could you be more specific? Why Chrome is needed, GPS permission etc? Thank

To be honest things have changed a lot since my reply. I live in London and Uber have disabled the web app entirely for all users in London. So for now Uber is no-go on Sailfish OS :(

I never found the standard Sailfish browser that good for web apps, so for Uber I used to use Chromium.

But now that doesn't work either for the reason mentioned above

tl;dr: you need an app specifically requesting gservices, uber is stupid not to request a service it needs.

You need an app that requests gServices and makes you install it, like some game, this will also force it to update eventually. Shortly after installing gapps and some game I was prompted to install gservices; however, I was stuck with crashing gservices after some store hickup (years after installing gapps actually), until one of the installed apps requested a newer version and from then on it updates automatically again.

Uber is working and updating fine for me. I simply followed the Play Store installation process ( https://together.jolla.com/question/30926/howto-install-google-play/ ) and installed Uber through it.

Does it really working these days? Trying to order Uber and spends a lot of time... No message is given after five minutes (neither timeout nor unavailable car). Seems like enters a loop.
