SFOS needs smaller phones
Dear Jolla fellows, On the past year, you''ve made tremendous efforts to create Sailfish OS. I love this OS, seriously, and it's amazing how usable it is with one hand only.
Your Jolla phone is pretty wide already for people who have small hands, like me. A wide phone questions the ability to use the phone with one hand only, despite the SFOS efforts in this direction. And now, the Jolla C is even wider than the Jolla 1. I could have bought one, I was in time, but when I saw 72 mm width, my first feeling was WTF!
Get back few years ago for a moment, when the N9 was revealed. Ok, the times were not in favor of big phones at this moment. But the N9 was a beaufitul piece of engineering of both hardware and software. It was fascinating how the hardware was designed to emphasize the MeeGo interface daily use, I think in particular of the 2.5D screen which led the thumb on the screen edges.
Being able to use SFOS with one hand is also good enough. But if you decide to embed it into wide phones, you'll loose one of the SFOS "raisons d'être". Hope to see SFOS embedded into smaller phones in the future.
this is so true...
NuklearFart ( 2016-05-29 22:53:04 +0200 )editThe Huawei Mate 8, that has a 6 inch screen, is perfectly usable with one hand. Just slide horizontally on the lower part of the screen with your thumb and the screen shrinks to 4" size, so you can enter your commands, then slide it back to its full size. And it fits in my jeans' pocket, BTW.

"Is that an iPad in your pocket or you are happy to see me" (j/k)
:P
ApB ( 2016-05-30 01:50:37 +0200 )edit"usable with one hand" is only one factor - and to me not even the most important one. "Fits easily in my pocket" is much more important to me - and the Jolla 1 already stretches that (pun intended). Something with the form factor of the old Nokia N900 (maybe somewhat thinner - but then again, the N900 had a good H/W keyboard) would be great.
dyraig ( 2016-05-30 10:22:06 +0200 )edit@ApB It's about the size of a wallet, but much thinner.
