Flatpak as a app distribution format?

Does it make sense for SFOS to move to flatpack and replace the rpm format it currently uses?

There is flatpak support for Sailfish OS on github now.

Seems like its tied to Fedora and has more limitations than Appimage.

Can you point me to what you see on that page as making Flatpak somehow tied to Fedora ? I'm using Fedora myself and all my flatpacks come from Flathub, not some Fedora repo and use the generic runtimes (freedesktop/KDE/Gnome), not some Fedora specific runtime.
IIRC there have been plans to create a Fedora hosted service to build Flatpacks & a Fedora runtime, but I don't think that yet in place.

It's not tied to Fedora at all. And note that this comparison is made by AppImage authors. From my experience AppImage is the most limited of the three and some points this comparison positions as advantages can be viewed as disadvantages as well (e.g. IMO the ability to run without installation and sandboxing is bad for Sailfish).

looks pretty good, there's no obvious showstoppers that I can see, but its perhaps still too early to tell whether its suitable for SFOS though
