[Feature Req] Dialer(Phone) Application: hybrid contact search

This is sort of a re-post, as per suggestion from @JoHe
Current state as in Sailfish OS version 2.0.2.45 (Aurajoki):
When I first open the Dialer (phone app), I am greeted with an empty window. The empty window since I didnt make any calls. This is where the logs should appear. I need to open the pulley menu to either search for a contact or dial a phone number. When the dialer is started, its obvious that the user wants to dial a phone number or call a contact, and may not be to see the logs. So its pointless not to provide the user with the option to do so, rather than the user explicitly taking a step to get the thing done. The chances that the user wants to dial a previously dialed number or a new number should not be speculated. It should be left to the user to choose the convenience.
Suggested improvement:
- On opening the dialer, open a number keypad, focused and expecting input from user. As the inputs come in, a search for contacts for matching phone number or T9 combination of the contact should also be done in background and presented to the user (like in Cyanogenmod). Its more productive to have the dialer window ready to search/call for contact/ number at the same time showing an option to check the logs so that the user can redial from history. This way the taps/pulls needed to achieve any of the basic needs are optimized.
The "best" or more to my liking solution to the -arguably not excellent- dialer i read in TJC is the three page one. Center log, Swipe left Phone, Swipe right Contacts. On the first run it can show a message indicating the way to use it.
BTW from the top of my head your assumption that when someone opens the dialer wants either call a contact or a number and putting seeing logs lower in preference doesn't hold much water. You can't possibly know what the user wants to do. Configuring what appears on the main screen is totally acceptable and up to user preference.
ApB ( 2016-07-27 22:36:46 +0300 )edit@ApB exactly my point. With the existing implementation, the software assumes that I want to dial from the history. I need to use the pulley menu to call a contact. The problem with that is, with all the animations, it makes me wait for a long time.
