vote representation [duplicate]

Perhaps if this were solely an interrogative forum, like a community built F.A.Q. (which is what askbot sells itself as) with a specific topic and authoritative verifiable reference sources. Then I would agree, it is not and I do not agree.

In the above scenario the down voting should work well as a duplicate question is demoted and the best answers are promoted.

In the article below, Jolla are quoted using terms "co-creation" and "feedback" neither of which is appropriate to put in the interrogative format i.e. "Do you think that feature X can be improved?" or "Is a specific new feature that could work in an unspecified way in the road-map?" This is before you even begin address the issue of a disparate group of users each with their own preconceptions converging on the site with their own ideas of what it should be and do and how to use it, in mind.

A well defined process can work very well for specific tasks. For example monitoring the satisfaction of service users. Wherein you would see an easily defined etiquette of use and specialised user base. together.jolla.com attracts all sorts of users from those like me, who want to share our thoughts and experiences all the way to an informed minority.

In my view the only valid correct answer to question is one which is either factually verifiable or directly actionable by the responder. Everything else is merely hearsay.

In short, to my mind, your answer does not address either how together.jolla.com is used nor how it appears to be intended to be used. There no way that I could express all that in a vote!

Currently it says there is +1 vote on a question that has over a thousand views. We have no way of knowing if of those thousand+ views, that they've voted at all or that we have 1000+ votes cast with the differential between +ve and -ve being just one vote.

The second problem is that Jolla uses answers to questions as a poll. The answers are often invalid and at odds with the original poll question but will be used as evidence of support for what should be done on a particular topic.

It all seems like a mess.

I agree with @aegis, there is a problem. Would disabling downvote option solve this @eric ?

@simo: I'm rather reluctant to modify this core askbot feature just to accommodate. Note that this issue seems to be prominent on this very topic only. I'm sure we could easily mitigate with applying our guidelines for a poll rather than having this as a question... Opinions?

Another problem I've noticed is that you can vote on an entry and then at a later date convert it to a wiki entry whereby someone else can modify the answer to be other than the original. That's certainly wrong.

As such I don't see how you can use Askbot as a polling system.
