Please add only positive bullets to this wiki. If, for some strange reason, you need to express negative feelings about your phone, then start another thread.

  • I got a genuine penguin in my pocket
  • The feeling of NOT feeling, a too big disrespectful american company crawling up my ass whenever I start my smart phone
  • The worlds best community, including really helpful company staff and third party app developers
  • Just being unlike
  • True multi tasking
  • All apps are free (donateware) and most of them are open source which is very useful to learn how to develop for mobile phones
  • Ambiences are quite unique and they are affecting visual rendering of any Sailfish app making all apps consistent
  • Still new firmware updates since December 2013.

I know here is a similiar thread 'unique reasons to buy', but I can't find it.

There a lot of similar threads, simply search for "reasons". E.g.:here

For really lovers look here

Can love be duplicate?

Developer Mode

No uber-geeky jail-breaking needed just for root access and ssh.

I can listen to music from youtube without having to keep my display on, sucking a lot of precious electricity. :)

You can do this same on Android, if using Youtube with a browser. Just tested on 7.1.2.

Actually there is still one advance/featrure what is related to this answer; In android you can't keep playing youtube playback on when you are in another application. Sure some android versions have split screen function, that basicly just enable multitask two applications same time by splitting these two applications to smaller windows which fits in the screen. But it's not same thing still.

Jk ( 2018-11-25 16:50:39 +0300 )edit

@Vinder not. At least from 8.* on you cannot, as they want you to switch to their tube music app for paid subscription.

It's Simplicity

In both design an UI. I get a lot of "What sort of phone is this, is this all there is to it?". Then I get a "Wow! Cool!, I love the phone".

The gestures (or the lack thereof) is what gets me really frustrated when I'm helping friends with their (usually android) phones. I absolutely love the Sailfish user interface. Well worth making even better.

Killer-Feature

The phone plays a sound on new messages or mails, vibrates noticable and indicate permanently what happened through different LED-Colours.

Well. A lot of Androids can this also, iPhones generally not. What I consider a typical Apple-Fail, because Apple missed the LED at first, the claim now it is not necessary.

But Jolla is a lot of better:
It doesn't plays the sounds on subsequent messages following immediately and just vibrates slightly in this case. Because the phone should have attracted your attention now already.

This is fantastic! No disturbance through a flow of messages and angry views from annoyed co-workers. Especially girls tend two write a lot of seperate messages in a flow instead of one message ;)

Someone added an awkward link "Negative feelings 1" to my post, I decided to remove it. Here is the link:

Anyway, you should read here more if you are using a Jolla-C: https://together.jolla.com/question/138456/jolla-c-message-led-only-one-colour/?answer=138571#post-id-138571

I love the way Jolla is respectful to old devices i.e. Jolla one updateable and fully funtional with Sailfish3, Jolla C faster with Sailfish3... They are respectfull to their comunity by avoiding programmed obsolescense that all the key players in the mobile industry are using nowadays...

I love to have a truly European developed software in my pocket, that is constantly evolving and completely bloatware free... Jolla is unlike, and unique.

@pawel, explain yourself; I am confused. :)

lakutalo ( 2017-11-04 13:20:34 +0300 )edit

@lakutalo, i was using Moto Z for some month and the amount of forced interation by google apps is just creepy. Especially Google Maps asks you to rate and share photos on places to enhance their poi system very often. Even for places you just stopped nearby or drove along.

mosen ( 2017-11-06 20:55:00 +0300 )edit

OK now I understand! That's madness I never experienced for I left android at 3.something.

I have allready four Jolla.1 and two Jolla C-phones. All my children are using.Jolla and I can tell that yhe friends of.the children are.really jealous. There is something to it, innovative, going forward thing going on. As soon as Jolla releases a new phone we will buy six of them, with love to all my family.

Welcome to TJC. :)

If you like the current phones then your family will love the idea of a slightly smaller phone too, I hope?

The smoothness, linux of course, and it works very well for me on 4G/3G and wifi. Excellent and very safe to use - the phone with fewest erroneous calls. That is a real plus.

Lotus Cars used to have the slogan performance through light weight. My Jolla phones seem to share that philosophy. Can't find good words for to describe it but even on modest hardware I get things done quickly.

@vattuvarg I agree completely. The beauty if KIS - keep it simple.
