thumbdata getting huge amount of disk

Today I realized that using android camera(for example with telegram) alien stores some thumnail data to /home/nemo/android_storage/DCIM/thumbdata. I had about 2gb which was the main reason I have out of disk space.
The thumbdata folder contains one huge file - it's not the thumbnails themselves that make up the 2GB but just one file. This file only reports as 2GB but as far as I remember it does not use diskspace - only a few KB maybe. You'll notice by deleting that file that it will not free up any space ;)
