User nemo cannot read Android downloads

When I save a file in K9 mail (an Android mail client), their permissions are
-rw------- 1 10025 10025 58000 Aug 28 15:20 filename.pdf
(user 10025 is also listed as the owner of the K9 process). In particular, I cannot open them with Sailfish applications (which run as the user nemo) after saving them. This did not happen with my Jolla1 in the past; I could point a Sailfish OS file manager to the file and open them.
Is this intended behaviour? How can I save files so that I can read them back in Sailfish OS and other Android apps?
