Is there 'dropbox daemon' or something like this in Sailfish OS? If it exists, is it possible to configure it for auto-synchronization of some particular folder or file with dropbox?

Asking, because just thought if OS can store backup on dropbox - probably it already has all the infrastructure inside and it just needs to be configured properly.

@ElderOrb thats a great idea, it used to work in Box where you can set autoupload function, and folder. It will go to your images first, but you can then point it at another folder. For some reason Dropbox account synchronizes from PC/MAC to dropbox, and from dropbox to your Sailfish phone, however what users really need is the other way around. Synch from the Sailfish phone (files not images) to dropbox, and then from dropbox to your PC/MAC precisely like you say for backup reasons, or if you want to have an active synched cloud keychain that i want to use for example.

Actually I've solved this use case by switching to syncthing

From what i checked its not possible. I have no idea why a Dropbox SFOS account setup exists, but cloud storage cannot be accessed using the SFOS dropbox account- it just gives a menu option to save things to the cloud from the SFOs file menu or cloud share option. Dropbox Android app itself only syncs pictures.

  1. as ElderOrb pointed out syncthing is the only way,
  2. Setup on each device, enables direct device to device sync if desired;
  3. downside is slightly sluggish and inconsistent sync on poor network connection or intermittent network with synchthing,
  4. takes at least 40min to setup amd get familiar with;
