I've tried but failed to update to Aurajoki. It won't go past the optimising stage. No feedback, just loops.

There's another thread on here that looks similar at https://together.jolla.com/question/144491/aurajoki-update-doesnt-start/?answer=144505#post-id-144505 - but has been closed, (otherwise I would have posted there).

I tried following the accepted solution at the previous thread. For me this fails at the "btrfs-balancer balance" step with message to free up space and try again.

I have ample disk space - (and have tried freeing up lots more by deleting most of my media files) - but no luck. "btrfs-balancer allocation" still returns 100%.

Any advice? (This is an original Jolla 1 device)

What represents "ample disk space"? Deleting files won't lower the btrfs allocation, you then need to run btrfs-balancer balance (or run again the update optimization, it should pass)

I've finally managed to get the btrfs-balancer to succeed. In the end it needed 7GB free before it would pass.

I had no indication that the device had any problem with disk allocation before the upgrade wouldn't run; everything had seemed fine. All a bit scary, but on a positive note, at least I have proper backups now, and have learnt a bit about btrfs in the process.

i was once at 97% allocation and i also needed to delete like 6 GB. i always do a balancing before updates. jolla.should make this problem more visible and mention it in the reö. notes

Yeah Jolla should just show the error in the UI. To know what happens, we are forced to enable developer mode. J1 is definitely not for standard users :/
