I want to auto arrange icons in alphabetical order. Is there any app for that. Or auto grouping the apps ?

On a related note, is there any app to auto arrange icons in "most used" order? :)

Just rename the config file for the app grid

cd /home/nemo/.config/lipstick/
mv applications.menu applications.menu.bak

and restart your phone.

To roll-back to your previous setting just revert the renaming:

cd /home/nemo/.config/lipstick/
mv applications.menu.bak applications.menu

and restart the phone again.

Instead of rebooting, restarting the home-screen should suffice.

it does not work for the 9 or so preinstalled apps (those are shown first), but it should work for all manually installed ones at least).

Why should the list default to alphabetical order when hidden or renamed?, there is no process put in place to reorder the file, hiding/renaming it won't default the list contents/launcher icon layout.

If you take a look at the contents of a .desktop file, you'll see that the naming convention for applications is not straight forward. While one app might be called 'mediaplayer' by pretty name (what you see on the launcher) when the app file name is 'jolla-mediaplayer' - title and file name often vary, as they do with Sailfish, but we have several 'Jolla' apps, jolla-email, jolla-gallery, jolla-mediaplayer, jolla-clock, jolla-settings, jolla-contacts........and then we have 3rd party apps; harbour-warehouse, harbour-file-browser, harbour-usb-switch, with a few other types; openrepos-clock-settings ..........my point being, to effectively reorder apps on the launcher, the sorting will need to be done by the 'pretty names' given to the apps; Phone, Email, Gallery Contacts.......but this is not how the applications menu file is configured, filenames are used, not pretty names.
