unfortunately i was to slow by ordering a jolla c but nevertheless my jolla is quite damaged and i looking for a new Phone with sailfish i just found the intex auqa fish which doesn't support the important 4G band in europe. Is there any other sailfish available or is planed? I also read that there was a plan with fairphone 2 but the last post i found according fairphone are quite old. Is the community working or it was just a dream?

The community port for Fairphone 2 works well from what I've read, it just isn't official (yet) so it doesn't support things like Exchange or Android applications.

do you have any information or link if fairphone really still plan to provide an official port? Because i just found rumors that they planing it and afterwards i found only link to the community port...

Unfortunately, Fairphone 2 isn't available at the moment. This may be a temporary issue, hopefully.

It's a shame that it isn't possible to buy any Sailfish-powered smartphone in Europe at all.

I would like to spend money for a Jolla 1 replacement, but nobody wants it? Unbelievable...

thats why i started the post it is ashaming there is a good Smartphone Operating System available but you can't buy it in europe anymore. Buying it in India is not a real solution because of warranty and the LTE-Bands.

me too. works fine in austria

Lucky you! As a matter of fact bands 7 and 20 are not supported, they are both common in Europe so, no LTE for me (A1 in Austria)

I use the Aqua Fish as my daily driver and I am happy with it, but I couldn't remember how the 3G Network lags in some cases.

What are the legal constraints for Jolla to resell an existing/upcoming hardware with SailfisOS on it ?

For example: Jolla buy 10.000 phones from Nokia, reflash them with SailfisOS and resell at a higher price as Jolla X phone.

i guess this will lead to warranty problems ;) except Nokia make an contract with Jolla and this will cost money for Jolla, but there new business model is the other way round so the manufacturer should license Sailfish

I just found this out today, read the answer to this question: https://together.jolla.com/question/147444/did-jolla-ever-even-_try_-to-get-a-big-player-to-license-sailfish-for-high-end-hardware/

A company that wants to sell Android phones (and Nokia has stated they want to do that now) usually joins the Open Handset Alliance. The OHA is a group of companies committed to Android - Google's Android - and members are contractually prohibited from building non-Google approved devices.

So I if Nokia, Samsung, Sony etc. would sell HW to Jolla so they can officially install Sailfish then Nokia etc. would be in legal trouble. Acer tried it: "Acer was bit by this requirement when it tried to build devices that ran Alibaba's Aliyun OS in China. Aliyun is an Android fork, and when Google got wind of it, Acer was told to shut the project down or lose its access to Google apps."

Do you mean are contractually are prohibited from building non-Google approved devices that are based on Android? Samsung sell Android and Tizen devices (and Intex sell Android and Sailfish devices though I don't know if they're in the OHA) I assume that anyone in the OHA can sell Sailfish devices - but not with Alien included.

@DaveRo: I have not read the contracts, but it has to be as you say. Devices are forbidden that are based on Android and that would leave out all the Google stuff (Google Play is the key). Samsung and others also sell Windows phones. That is OK. Selling a pure Sailfish device would not be a problem either, but the Alien Dalvik Android emulation layer IS a problem. Unfortunately many Sailfish users still need some Android applications. You can read the details here: Ars Technica: Google’s iron grip on Android: Controlling open source by any means necessary

StaticNoiseLog ( 2016-10-10 20:20:59 +0300 )edit

@StaticNoiseLog. Your Open Handset Alliance interpretation is wrong. Companies who sign OHA must be complaint with Google Android OS. This allow application scalability over different Android versions and hardware platforms. Any company who sign OHA is free to run any OS on that hardware, but if they choose Android, than must obey to Google rules. As result, any Android fork is not allowed and OHA companies that do so are banned from Google store. And I think this is very fair. I'm sure that Jolla will not like to see an SailfishOS fork taking advantage of Harbour. Do you ?

For the record, here is the shopping menu served, s'il vous plaît. We'll see if Oysters SF will be the next device in Europe. Until that Jolla C seems to be still available (in very high price)!
