Hi there & thanks for the workaround for recovering my Jolla 1 I found here.

After trying to update my Jolla 1, I faced the problems described on the recovery page here ("Boot Loop"), and I followed the instructions given to solve them: https://jolla.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/204709607-Jolla-Phone-How-do-I-use-the-Recovery-Mode-

When I chose 4) Shell in PuTTY, it asks me for my devicelock code - but I never set or had one, the only code I ever had to enter in my Jolla 1 is the code from the SIM card, which is not in the Jolla 1 now. PuTTY keeps on telling me, I enter a wrong code, even if I just press Enter, and that I only habe 3 tries left.

So seems to be a problem in a problem.

So, what is to do, please?

Thank you!

In this situation you need to send IMEI code to Jolla Care to send you factory unlock code.

interesting story... principally a business is closed if all the information are given from the old owner to the new one.
Seems that it was not the case indeed .

I don't know how many time you have juridically to have right to go back to the old owner. But i would say, try to get contact with him for having this pwd, and parallel try to contact your bank for having the information how it is possible to have your money back. if you have this info, then if possible you may reflect it further to guy. no pwd => phone back to you, and m oney back to me.
Maybe after one year you may have no possibilities...
Anyway check by your bank what is it possible for your case. asking costs nothing. and knowing it make you clever...

So, after unsetting lock code in settings i got this -

Type the number of the desired action and press [Enter]: 4 If you continue, this may void your warranty. Are you really SURE? [y/N] y[OK] No lockcode has been set. Proceeding... / #

Lock code it's not a pin code. Do you buy phone from official store?

Thank you. I sent my query to Jolla Care and asked for the unlock code. They answered:

"We have no such code available.

And, if the device is asking for a device lock code, that is not something that comes pre-set on the device.

So, this means that someone set the code. As such, it will be treated as a non-warranty case.

Still, we need your valid Jolla proof of purchase, i.e., your Jolla Shop order number, in order to proceed further. Please provide that at your earliest convenience."

But that does not really help. As I said, I never set such a code and never needed one, and I turned off my Jolla almost every night (and on every morning)...! I bought this phone second hand, but I can not see what makes the difference in this case. Jolla Care did not aswer me after asking again. I heared of somebody who has a similar problem and he will not longer use Jolla and go back to Windows phone. But this can not be what I want or Jolla wants. It seems obvious that the update harms phones, so there is some help needed...

Very weird that your Jolla locked you out. But Jolla gave you a pretty clear answer: Provide them with proof of purchase and they might be able to help you. Jolla HAS to ask you this question, because they don't want to risk giving help in unlocking stolen devices. Ask the person you bought the phone from to provide you with a proof of purchase (Jolla order number) and contact Jolla again with this information.

I have bought this phone second hand, so I have no such proof or number. I never needed a code after turning it on again, except for the SIM card. I sent the IMEI number. It is known that the OS update makes problems some times. It is also known that no new Jolla devices can be bought. So should somebody be forced to throw away a phone because he bought it second hand and a software update destroyed it? There must be another solution.

All I have from the seller is his name on my bank account, from more than a year ago. Let's see if this is enough to find him.

I see also his bank account number. From this data alone he is not to identify or contact. But I could send him some money to transfer my question.

@Dante if you activate developer mode in SFOS settings and allow remote login, define passcode is that the lockcode you might be referring to, it gives Super User access, and you can set it yourself.

Hello, I skipped to try the Data Recovery Instruction with Putty and went to one without saving data and without Putty. This worked fine for me. And: All data is still there. https://together.jolla.com/question/22079/howto-all-computer-users-recover-or-reset-a-device-that-is-stuck-in-boot-loop/?answer=155882#post-id-155882 Before that I tried to follow an instruction to recover data, where I used Putty, and Putty asked for a Device Lock Code, which never was set, I am sure.I bought the Jolla second hand, but put it off and on very often and only needed the SIM card PIN code. So if somebody is stuck with the recovery instruction using putty, you may better skip it: https://jolla.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/204709607-Jolla-Phone-How-do-I-use-the-Recovery-Mode-

Good to hear that you managed to fix your issue! However your first link points to your own answer, can you fix it so it's easier for other to find the alternate reset instructions?

Hello,

good new year!

Can someone please tell me if a devicelock code is something that is NOT needed when a turned of Jolla 1 is turned on?

Thank you & best regards!

The device lock code is needed to access the phone. Your situation is weird. I wonder what is this factory lock code mentioned by @coderus that Jolla is unaware of.

Sthocs ( 2017-01-03 12:25:09 +0300 )edit

Thank you! Then Putty must be wrong, asking me for a code which was never in the phone, because I turned it on many times, only needing the SIM-card-code. I will try without the new mini-SD but doubt that this is the reason. And then try just to set it back by Putty without recovery (which I doubt anyway will work very well with a not responding phone). Or I should use some other tool I do not know, which is not asking me for not existing codes. But to be honest, I do not know why this strange behaviour should stop. It seems like a case for the pros, not first level support.
