I use Jolla and Sailfish from the beginning. I like the idea of running Android apps to keep up with the trends, but there is a but... Every time I see a good service or app I face with a sign : download from istore or playstore. There is no simple way to install some offical apps other than that.

I do not like Google more than most of You but supporting android apps (with a reason) should also mean support for playstore.

Please consider adding support for playstore.

there are easy ways to install playstore for every jolla device. just search for it.

Please stop recommending Hacks for the normal user. There is a reason I wrote ”offically„. If there is an easy way, then I should find it in Jolla store to install. Jolla want Sailfish to be a regular OS, for average users I believe. It should not be OS for onlt programmers. But one can decide if offical support could move SFOS forward on its ways, or just keep the OS for the hacking community.

The EU-commission on commerce have fined Google due to issues on competition. I have written to the commision, that excluding non-android-phones from plays-store should be part of this case, since play-store has got a de facto monopol on app's. Rejecting jolla-device og tizen-device etc. to enter the play-store is like a supermarket rejecting customers because their bags are from another store. The phone itself is to be regarded as a bag. Whether the apps work fine on my phone or not, should be my concern, not the concern of the app-store. The supermaket doesn't care whether I actually can cook the beef I am from Denmark and there are several essential apps from the authorites (school, medical system, banking etc.) which only can be downloaded through google-playstore. So: The monopol of playstore is killing alternative OS'es. I wonder if Sailfish X on a Sony Experia Phone allows one access to Google Playstore?

In my opinion apps have no future, because it is very expensive to support update service for android and iOS and maybe other mobile oparating systems. I already changed away from many apps an now I use the browser to use services e.g. banking, facebook, twitter, amazon, etc... So I thinkt instead of pushing android apps Jolla should develop the worlds best browser...

Jolla should focus on optimizing their browser than to push android apps.

While in many cases an app indeed provides little extra over a webpage, in some cases it can. Apps can have more access to hardware, access which I wouldn't want a browser to have. Also, apps can provide a much more accessible, common and efficient UX than a webpage - each and every site has its own UX, many of them severely inferior to what can be done on the native platform. There is a place for both websites and apps. Having the option to run the most common format of apps, Android, is a plus. However, this is not really related to the question whether or not to support the play services officially.

Note that the most downloaded app from the aptoide-jolla store, Whatsapp, does not work as a website.

@xneo : completely agree with that. I already sent an email, some time ago, to propose that. Whatever the app if your browser in the best in class ...
