Hey,

The jolla phone is out of order, and I heard rumors that there will be no new jolla phone coming up. Whats going on? How do I get my hands on this phone?

Regards

I don't know if the Intex Aqua Fish is still in production. Also, it is a bit of a hassle to buy one outside of India. On the other hand, for the low price it is a really good phone. A good phone with a crappy camera, but overall I'm happy with mine.

You could also get a Fairphone and install the Sailfish OS Community Edition (lacking the Android Support).

Uh, seems I was a bit off-topic. I recently stumbled over this link:

http://omprussia.ru/

However, I have no idea what it is about, even after using Google Translate. I do love the white/blue colour combination though.

it resembles the jolla c/ intex aqua fish... only without the front camera, new colors and some new artwork (2.1.0?).... And a new tablet???

Perhaps a representative from Jolla could step in to clarify things?

Jolla decided to stop making hardware and focusing on the development of SFOS. Instead, they want to team up with Hardware manufacturers and license SFOS to them. The first deal of this kind was with Intex (Indian Mobile Provider) which brought us the Intex Aqua Fish (and the Jolla C, which basically was just the Aqua Fish with minor changes).

As it seems the batch of Aqua Fishs is sold out (at least there are no more listings on ebay), we unfortunately don't have any officially supported hardware to purchase at the moment. There are rumors / announcements of a new SFOS device from a russian company, but those are currently not available (yet).

So, if you want to buy a device for SFOS, you have the following possibilites at the moment:

  • Buy a used Jolla Phone: Be aware that the first Jolla phones seem to get to the end of their lifes with quite some hardware errors and malfunctions.
  • Be lucky to find an Aqua Fish for purchase somewhere. Keep in mind that the phone originally has a price of 6000 Rupees, with shipping and customs you paid around 100€ to get one to Europe. There are some listings on ebay at the moment asking for the extortionate amount of around 250€.
  • Get an Android device which has a community port of SFOS. Unfortunately, they don't offer the possibility to run Android Apps under SFOS since this feature was licensed by Jolla only for official devices.
  • Be patient and wait for the next official device to arrive someday

Yes but that sellers don't send outside India.

PS: Aqua Fish disappeared from Intex website some time ago.

Attention biz122: where are you located? I have 2 Jolla phones, one since 2014 and a second purchased as part of a tablet package. (The tablet never appeared!) I continue to use the original one as my principal phone but am becoming increasingly frustrated with being limited to Android 4.1.2 so I am considering switching over to Android with the result that my two Jollas, with some accessories may be available for sale shortly.
