I'm surprised as you are. I wonder if it's somthing about the community or sony is commited to sailfishOS. If sony is commited to sailfish this is a dream come true for me!

Wow so many news! Suddenly so much Hardware to talk about - I feel like it's X-Mas and Easter at the same day. We can choose Hardware -soon(tm), maybe, from big companies(?) like Sony(!). I feel like I'm getting nose-bleeding...

What an irony that Sony may become partner of ex Nokia-Linux-Software-Department after they were almost out of business when Nokia was leading with Symbian

My Almost 3 years old Jolla phone was becoming a treasure never to be replaced ever again, especially when Jolla C/Intex Aqua was relatively decent but in truth not replacement enough for the my ageing device. Thanks Jolla, now we know for a fact with Xperia ( Arguably the best android device manufacturer out there ) running the best OS till date, other big names will have to follow when they realize what Sony did: THAT SAILFISH IS SIMPLY STUNNING, JUST STUNNING!!!

I can't believe that for my next Sailfish device I will actually have options to choose from, although I can picture myself the owner of an Xperia running an official Sailfish OS, this smile on my face will never fade away

We need jolla to share some info on that. Like how the whole thing will work. Ie will jolla sell the devices, will users be able to install SFOS easily on most Xperia devices etc, etc.

I am soooooo buying an X compact with SFOS on it.

Agreed, I wouln't mind "normal" X version either it is still better than current options (meaning none in Europe).

But SFOS seems to be more alive than ever!

lupastro ( 2017-02-27 15:25:05 +0300 )edit

Also SFOS got its own derivatives in Russia & China

p_pahare ( 2017-02-27 15:31:27 +0300 )edit
2

That's sad but I still have the hope that maybe one day one manufacturer will pic up the TOH concept and then it's on..

Only because Sony is partnering with Jolla (which is great news, BTW,) doesn't mean others wouldn't do so as well. I am particularly hoping for CircularDevices licensing SFOS for their upcoming PuzzlePhone, if just for the modular design being a sort of intrinsic TOH, with the heart-module having access to the whole device bus via USB.

hubat ( 2017-02-27 17:48:18 +0300 )edit

tttttt. correction => seems to be dead

This is awesome!! We will finally get the chance to see the amazing Sailfish OS on a great hardware..!!

It would be interesting to see any info on availability (when and who between Jolla and Sony will make it available) and whether existing Xperia X owners will be allowed to port it in their devices (by having access to the Jolla store too).

Does anyone knows anything on this?

Release at end of Q2 2017. I don't know if existing owners take part.

Jalasoft? I don't know them. What I see is SONY XPERIA.

The later are known for relative good work based on AOSP.
