When someone calls me, I find that the call quality is really bad, with crackles when I increase sound, even when the sound is not very loud.

I don't know if it's a hardware problem or if it could be corrected with a software update.

Am I the only one with this problem?

I have also experienced little distortion on call and main speaker on really high volume level. The buttons also feel a bit loosened up, especially the volume button. But since there have been no "vital errors" so far I haven't returned the device for repairs at least yet.

Have been using it daily since December 20th with no sound distortion in the earpiece speaker. Only sound issues have occurred when either I or the calling party have been in areas of very poor signal.

In fact it's not like call distorsion in area of poor signal but more like if something vibrates inside the earphone.

I'm also having this problem. I think it got worse after the 1.0.2.5 update so I'm still hoping that it is a software problem and not hardware.

With high volume I have the same issue as well (no issue when using bluetooth headset, thus I guess is related to the speaker)

Hello everybody; It seem that in my Jolla phone the earphone quality derated much after the last OS update: now the voice seem metal and vibrant. It still usable but the sound quality is very annoying. Anybody know if there's a software patch for this issue? Thanks

Same for my Jolla. Did you try to remove TOH (cause I suspect TOH to be the unintentional vibrator in some cases - like a guitar ;-)

For me it seems to be a hardware issue (I also have problem with the vibrator that no longer works).

My phone was returned to Optima Service so maybe this problem will be solved after repair, I hope :)

I also had my Jolla on Optima, for earphone and speaker warranty repair. Phone seems to work nicely now.

I made a support request, and had this answer

Open Phone app Take "Enter phone number" in the pull down menu. Type the string ##310## and wait a moment CSD app will start up. Accept the disclaimer Tap 'Individual tests' Scroll down until you see the word 'Audio' on the right Tap 'Receiver playback'. If there is a headset or a Bluetooth device connected to your Jolla, disconnect them now. Tap 'Start' then.

I did it and...surprise ! No noise from the ear speaker. So, it happens only during calls, and it shouldn't be a hardware problem; I'm trying to understand and solve it.

For me ##310## does not open any app. Should I place a call to that number?

That is not the right string, this is *#*#310#*#* the right one

Great service code! Thanks. :)

My 'Receiver' is not working during calls. I tested with CSD Tool and 'Receiver playback' is muted. So can anyone suggest to fix the issue.

Did you understand and solve it? I'm having the exact same issue: cracking sound whenever in a call, sometimes even turning the volume all the way down doesn't fix it. But I just ran the suggested tests and receiver playback of the Jolla tune was crystal clear. So I'm also guessing that it's related to calls somehow

I think this but it can be wrong. Like Alsa, Pulseaudio handles the audio with a software mixer. In some devices (speakers and so on) alsa overpower the speaker and you hear sound very ugly and crackles. So i think, the PCM mixer is too high?

You can test with pactl settings in the terminal. Example (100% is default, higher values are possible but please be careful with your ears!!!):

pactl set-sink-volume 1 80%

I had a problem with the speaker a bit over a month ago. Basically whenever I was on a call the speaker sounded like there was a hair on top of it that would vibrate against the speaker membrane. I reported the problem to Jolla care, they asked me to send the device in, I did, it came back fixed. Repair report said that they had replaced the speaker. I haven't had this problem since.

I don't know if it was a broken speaker or just dirt on the membrane, but since the phone was still in warranty I didn't want to start opening it up and sent it to Jolla care instead. The service was pretty quick, got the phone back in about a week.

I have the same problem. My first Jolla was OK, But I gave it away and buy a new and this one has the problem with a hoarse earphone. :(

Is there someone who has solved this? How? Send to Jolla service center as warranty defect?
