Will Sony supply the ambience images for the Xperia X port? [answered]

The background images that comes with the Xperia X are beautiful. ...and that made me wonder if Sony will be involved in the graphics for the Sailfish OS port too. It would be nice to find a set of ambience images that matches the hardware colours (white, lime, rose and black).

So, it's an excellent opportunity to start producing then.

You know you would be the first one to publish a set of Xperia/Sailfish ambiences. Or should we call it SailfishX ambience? ;)

It is indeed an opportunity.

Xperia X background image resolution doesn't match the one for Sailfish.

Weirdly enough, I keep thinking about my next phone as a Sony Xenia X.

The Sony Xperia X port is done by the Jolla team. At best devs from Sony Open Device Program will help with drivers, but Sony will not provide artwork for the SailfishOS builds.

That said you can backup background images before reflashing and import into SailfishOS.

Strange that a company like Sony wouldn't have any material at all for a collaboration like this.

Sony is solely focused on Android. While they endorse community builds via the Open Device Program you still use your warranty when unlocking the bootloader so the SailfishOS is not an official variant by Sony. That said you can still install the backgrounds that you desire.

It will be possible to copy the original artwork, yes, but I was hoping for specific images for the Sailfish OS port and simply assumed that Sony would have at least something that they could offer. I can't imagine a situation where both companies miss the opportunity for branding.

"Mom's name is Sony and dad's name is Jolla. Of course we love you, kid."

If I was to follow your analogy Sony is just a donor. It's Jolla responsibility to make a working build for the device. Sony don't want to brand it because they don't officially support unofficially ROMs for their phones.

A tough start for a child, then. ...but... "This is a Jolla phone with Sony hardware."

I hope the little one grows up and makes mommy proud too.
