I mean, this might be a crazy (and/or stupid) idea, but I'll write it down anyway...
* mostly I'm thinking of Sailfish native camera app co-developed by Sony
* secondly I'm thinking of Playmemories remote app which exists as Android app but can't connect to camera on SFOS https://www.playmemoriescameraapps.com/

What if we ask Sony to help (Jolla) on camera software for Sailfish? We are always complaining to Jolla, but now many of us have a Sony phone and I've come to an understanding that they do listen to their customers. Furthermore they seem to be pioneers in opening phones for custom software. So, they might be interested...

If we write a petition and send it in the end to Sony? Just like camera people have done here: https://www.change.org/p/sony-remove-the-star-eater-on-sony-a7-a7s-r-mk-i-ii-and-a9-cameras

I know, we wouldn't make many many thousands of names on the list. But you never know if the snowflake hits another and in the end we have an avalanche.. Wouldn't cost atleast that much :-)

Ps. same way we could send our voice heard to other app developers.. atleast 1 year ago when I sent email to Parkman that they should do SFOS version of their parking app, they responded that they had had a thought on it. So, it might be that we just need to shout out loud, otherwise we don't "exist".

jolla have already had a lot of help from Sony on the Sailfish X project, im sure the camera has been talked about.

imo the best way to show our interest is to buy the Xperia X + Sailfish X combo, which gives some ammunition for Jolla to take to any further discussions they might have with Sony

Agreed about the Combo; from what I see this indeed a good thing to attract newcomers to the SFOS platform, at least I bought an Xperia X specifically for that purpose. But flashing SFOS needs to be a lot easier if it is to gain traction and serve to increase sales. I.e. it needs to be close to a one-click "grandparent compatible" installer level, I hope Jolla will work to improve it. Chicken and egg etc.

@r0kk3rz: I haven't seen anywhere black on white that Sony would have helped Jolla, have you? I've seen only fancy announcements that Sony open device program is now also open for Sailfish...

I seriously doubt that Sony and Jolla have had much discussion what comes to the camera. Atleast... if Sony has given help about the camera to Jolla, then Jolla has done nothing with that help. The camera app of Sailfish X is not a camera at the moment, it is a catastrophe. Focusing problems, camera resolution is what it is and so on..

@Kao: I too chose Sonys Xperia X because of Sailfish. Otherwise I would have bought Xperia X Compact. But Sony decision makers will not see us in their statistics (unless sales are really good and Jolla is drumming their sales quantities of Sailfish X to Sony).

@lumen, if you run the AOSP build that Sailfish X is based upon you'd run into the same issues with the camera.

The camera is a major component with the DRM protected features that are lost when you unlocked the bootloader

I think I will scale down this whole thing and take it to the camera question about Sony Playmemories remote app: https://together.jolla.com/question/73797/sony-playmemories-mobile-issues/
