When opening the Jolla store app, the first screen opened is the one that shows the newest comments and votes for different apps in the store.

When you pull left, a new screen appears with Categories.

When you press All you can see the first six apps wiht the most votes and after that (below the text "show apps with most likes") all apps that are in the store (the newest or updated ones beeing at the top).

I would like this third screen (the one when you press All) to be the first screen (starting page) when opening the Jolla store app (or the page with Categories). I think that this is the page that is most often used by users and should be availabe right away after app launch.

The other pages (with the newest comments and votes and the one with Categories) should of course be also available in the app.

I didn't even know about the categories view. :) Thanks.

"Categories" could be a good start page.

Would have been great if this had been posted as a question: 'What kind of starting page would you like to have in Jolla store?', then the Answers could have been posted to that question, and nost popular of rhem could have been voted ;) How about it, could the OP edit the question and post his/her own proposal (categories as start page) as one Answer..?

Re-tagged: cause this is feature-request for existing app, not a wish to have a new app (app-request)

I'd suggest to start with newest apps added to the store, putting the categories in the bottom pulley menu while adding other store options in the top pulley menu.

I agree, "All apps" would be the better starting page. Especially because they are sorted by date. So you can see the newest on top. The view which is at the moment the starting page is only confusing mixed with all the comments. I never use that view.

I'd would not want that to appear on first view, because that would be too "messy" for me. Just think of how cluttered that view becomes when more and more apps become available.

But I agree that the current start view is confusing and a little bit dysfunctional.

From a users perspective I'd like to have some guidance. That means to have

  • a section with promoted/selected apps,
  • perhaps one section with apps recommended by my installation profile,
  • a section that corresponds to the current start views "hot"/discussed apps
  • and a more visible hint for entering the categories view.

Those sections should also remain in their UI areas, unlike now, when comments appear under AND above the jolla-apps sections...

Exactly! Current view is not optimal.. but "All" is not really better. I'd really like a page with a combination of recent additions, recent comments, top voted etc etc. Good suggestion!

No. The current 1st screen in the store is wonderful. It helps me to see which applications other users talk about most. They're the most interesting, not necessarily the new ones. Very often, I only go to the store only to have a quick glance at this social feed.

No it's not wonderful, it's just confusing mess of icons repeating randomly, and provides no useful information whatsoever, even the text font is so small that I can hardly see the names of the apps.

I suggest to split the current start screen into two different areas:

  1. The first half of the Screen should contain recently published apps
  2. The second half should stay as it is an show the comments and likes.

Swipe Left for Guidance?

What about starting with the Categories view? ...and having the feed of comments accessible with a swipe-left?

Tapping a category shows the available apps. ...with a filtered feed for that category available with another swipe.

Tapping an app opens the app info view. ...and swipe-to-the-left shows the feed for that single app (the comments).

Does that seem logical to you?

would be unsexy :) because it's just a plain text-list then for the start. that's kind of boring isn't it?

I prefer getting to the stuff i want quickly instead of having to go through the minds of others first. It's not logical to ask for directions when you know where to go. ...but yeah, being effective is unsexy nowadays.

a good reason to make this configurable like @ssahla proposed

mgbler ( 2014-01-24 22:14:01 +0300 )edit

It would indeed be nice to be able to configure it, but what would be the default behaviour? The default is what the jolla newbie will see of the store. Should we tell them to go configure things first?

I propose: Make it configurable. (A quite common notion here, so I'd also like to propose an abbreviation: MIC. :)

I, like many others, wish for a way to see the latest additions quickly. Right now I open the Store every day just to check what new apps are available. But as the flow of new apps – hopefully – grows, the latest additions section becomes less relevant: If there are fifty new apps every day, not many users want to go through all of them. Something like featured apps or most liked new apps will become more important. (Also search will grow more important as the number of apps grows.)

Solution: Make the store home configurable per user account so that you can select a few sections to be shown: Latest apps, featured apps, most popular, commented right now, new apps in a certain category, etcetera. And of course you could tap any of these to show more of that section. The default could contain essentials from Jolla, new apps and commented apps – more or less like the start page is now. But you could make it what you wish.
