Anyone gotten connected to a 5GHz WiFi network on Sailfish X? I can detect and see 5GHz networks and seemingly connect to them as well, but there will be no data transfer. Nothing happens if I try to browse the internet. While 2,4GHz networks work just fine. I find this a bit unfortunate as I could browse 5GHz networks just fine with the Xperia X before Sailfish X.

EDIT: The router is an ASUS RT-AC51U.

Works fine on my Xperia X. I only connected to my 5Ghz network and surfed and downloaded stuff through it.

I've connected to 5GHz at first, but then soon X couldn't see 5GHz networks at all. 2.4GHz works fine.

Not sure about 5GHz on its own, but i have never seen it use 802.11ac, or even 802.11n for that matter.

I've set 802.11n+a as 5Ghz standard, then the xperia connects always to 5 Ghz.

Works fine for me also. I've done nothing special on the X nor on the router.

An answer of sorts. I noticed the performance on 5Ghz, AC wifi was poor with SailfishX, but I was also getting mixed results with other clients, particularly when many devices were connected. This was using my ISP supplied router, cheap as chips.

On my test the Sony SailfishX got a max of 7Mbps download (sometimes 1 to 2Mbps) using Ookla Speedtest andriod app versus Samsung S6 Android getting 35Mbps. Both devices within 1 metre on 5GHz.

My theory is that the SailfishX doesn't play nicely with low cost routers, routers powered by chips like Mediatek. I think the Asus router you have has MTK silicon. Clearly it should work and perhaps a newer kernel might help the X if/ when Jolla upgrade it.

For me, I wasn't happy with my ISP router anyway, so I got a Netgear router (broadcom based) and now every device has a good wifi connection and speed. SailfishX connects to AC 5GHz and goes as fast as any other device. In fact I have the same ssid for 2.4Ghz and 5GHz and my Sony most of the time, if close enough, chooses the 5Ghz.

How is the signal strength now between 2.4 and 5GHz?

For me? Signal strength has improved on 5GHz by using a Netgear D6400 router v ISP's router. I can go further away from the router on 5Ghz and still get a reasonable download speed. Using the 2.4GHz it's about the same signal range, but doesn't slow down when many 2.4GHz connect, which was the case with my ISP router. Basically the Netgear router is way better than the router from my ISP.

5GHz signal strength can be an issue, one flimsy wall, drywall framed about 40ft from my router puts strength at one bar!
