WPA Enterprise 802.1X stopped working with 2.1.1 [duplicate]

Before 2.1.1 I was able to connect to my university’s WLAN (including eduroam), by manually creating a configuration file as described in https://together.jolla.com/question/315/how-to-wpa-8021x-enterprise-eduroam-others-gui-wifi-support-needed-workaround/?sort=votes&page=1

After the upgrade to 2.1.1, the phone is no longer able to connect, neither with the manual configuration file, nor using the new UI for that.

I have seen that post, but it did not help me. And it completely leaves open the question _why_ things stopped working, and why the built-in support for WPA does not work for university networks.
