I've found an article about HMD statement on unlocking bootloader of Nokia phones:

Here it is the mentioned tweet - I wish if HMD opened up Nokia 6 - or even better Nokia 8 - that would open the possibility of Sailfish N... :D

Sailfish OS for Nokia 2 and 3 would be nice too.

...oh and this question is probably a duplicate. You are asking for yet another port of Sailfish OS.

Why, add a port request here! https://together.jolla.com/question/128326/community-port-requests/

Splendid idea, btw.

EDIT: I have added the respective entries in the named post!

SFOS in HDM/Nokia devices - think about the irony of it! I still think the N900 is/was the best mobile device ever made! I still miss the UI responsiveness, sound quality and allways-on notification display... I still use mine as a music player

This was shown today in https://www.xda-developers.com/nokia-8-bootloader-unlock

Perhaps SFOS will be in Nokia - smart phones by HDM Global some day officially. ๐Ÿ˜Š

IMHO, Sailfish would make sense on device without front-facing buttons and the notch (regardless of love-hate, you just won't see the clocks on main screen). Does HMD even make phones like that?

I think theere are many of those: 6.1, 7Plus, 8Sirocco, etc...

especially the 7+ would be perfect match with SFOS...

Nah Nokia 8 is meh. Some features missing: waterproofness, amoled display, iris or face scanner and modern 18:9 screen aspect ratio. Also old cpu gpu combo makes it worse. There is much better phones out there like for example Sony xperia xz3 or samsung galaxy s9. Xperia xz3 have even wireless charging, Nokia 8 does not have it. And I know sailfish can't be ported to galaxy s9 due system on chip.

I'm already somewhat disappointed for new sailfish device, Sony xperia xa2. Xperia xa2 is slightly better than Xperia x...

I hope in future that Jolla will bring us high end Sony phone like xz3 is. Also I know that sailfish not actually need /benefit high end sytem on chip so much because sailfish os is very light operating system.

We need first high end sailfish device and after that we could hope for entry/mid level devices like you suggested nokia 2,3 6.1 and so on.

Looks like brand new Sony's smartphones are not in Sony's open device program list. Maybe those smartphones will be added to open device Program later I guess. Anyways my English sucks here but you get my point.

Oh and before anybody says those phones are too expensive: Why need to care about price of those high end smartphones, because anyways price drops pretty fast nowdays. And more later (few years) and you get those phones with very cheap price tag.

Nokia 8 is in the phase of dropped price, right? ;) of course, there are better devices now but still ok...

on the other hand I would prefer 7plus more ATM...

XZ3 is supported on the open devices program: https://developer.sony.com/develop/open-devices/get-started/supported-devices-and-functionality/ Sailfish may not need a high end CPU itself, but if your app usage is quite demanding then the better hardware will help... (and also the OLED display can allow for the low power standby screen to be enabled...)
