The current web browser for Sailfish OS is based on Mozilla code. Now that Firefox has been upgraded to Firefox Quantum, will the Sailfish browser also benefit from that new code?

Why not crowdfund a native version? How much would it take?

@vattuvarg We already have non-native Firefox on this OS; Aliendalvik runs it just fine (but I haven't tried Quantum yet, I admit).

I've tried Firefox Quantum on my (Mageia) Linux desktop. It is clean and fast.

Sailfish browser is currently based on Firefox 38, Jolla doesn't even have resources to upgrade to 52 (which is the latest ESR version), let alone 57 which is much harder to port because it depends on rust.

@coderus

Read the full article, it was misprinted and finishes the post with;

"Mozilla reached out to us and said that some Project Quantum improvements would arrive in Firefox 57 for Android. The article has been corrected."

Could be 59, 60 or 66. It will probably take longer than that to get it to Sailfish OS.

some, and would. That's awesome news!

I have installed Firefox 57 for Android on my Jolla 1. I can't tell if it has all the quantum improvements, but it's much faster than the native browser amd Brave. It's really good.

No sfos will do not benefit for that. You ask why? quantum is 57 number why sfos gecko is still ancient 58 (number my differ but its ancient af) so no, no quantum for us until somebody make it.
