My Jolla1 running 2.1.3.7 can be waken by alarm. I have tested it on my Xperia (running 2.1.37) and it doesn't work. Is it a bug or is it a feature (f.i. it is not possible due to Xperia X hardware) ? I haven't found any information about this in release notes or changelogs.

I'm assuming you mean "waking up to alarm when device is powered off".

What that requires is that the device has a real time clock chip that can be programmed to power up the device when wakeup alarm occurs. There are some devices where the required hw features are missing. And in most of the devices where it is supported by hw, the feature is not enabled by default (#1). Xperia X should be in the latter category, but the expected way of enabling did not work (#2) -> we have internal bug ticket about it, but it is not considered high priority at the moment. (Hint: Fix for this would be a great community contribution...)

Note1: See "RTC alarm" column in https://wiki.merproject.org/wiki/Adaptations/libhybris

Note 2: In other qualcomm based devices it has involved changing a single value in device tree, but in Xperia X this (qcom,qpnp-rtc-alarm-pwrup at https://github.com/mer-hybris/android_kernel_sony_msm/blob/aosp/LA.BR.1.3.3_rb2.14/arch/arm/boot/dts/qcom/msm-pm8950.dtsi#L354) is not working/enough on its own.

You're assuming correctly. Thank you for this very precise and interesting answer. I agree that it's not a high priority issue.

I had the same issue this morning. Powered it off because o 20% battery only and no charger by hand. But the phone did not power on for alarm. Also the alarm does not start after booting half hour to late.
