Why, sure! Go to Settings -> Developer Tools and activate Developer Mode. You will then get the app Terminal which is exactly what you are looking for.

From that point on you are carrying an almost full Linux terminal workstation in your trousers :) including of course ssh.

I would also add the suggestion to get a bluetooth hardware keyboard that offers all the necessary key (Shift, Ctrl, Alt, etc.).

I.e.: One with 5 rows of keys. Not the smaller one that basically only have letters and numbers.

Though fingerterm already has on-screen buttons for these keys (so it's pretty much usable with the on-screen alphanumeric keyboard or a small hardware one), it's much more comfortable to have a real hardware keyboard with everything on it.

Still, you kill your eyes. I use it via USB on a regular workstation which is rigidly kept in a M$ environment, enjoying the ease of bash. :)

Thank you so very much for the answers: it is exactly what I was looking for. I can use VIM in my remote development environment with such portable terminal, without the fear of having everything recorded, and with a respectable battery consumption: I've charged it once in Saturday -- although I use it regularly (new phone) -- I still have 24%. SF is just getting more and more awesome. Thank you for helping

Tip: if you're permanently connected by USB - as in my case - you should write yourself a script to limit upper and lower charging thresholds, not to wear out your battery too early. You would have to check those "files": /sys/class/power_supply/battery/capacity (charge percentage) and /sys/class/power_supply/battery/status.

hi, no, actually, I've charged it once, and never needed to connect the usb cable again. but doesn't the phone turn off automatically while near 5-10%?
