Hello together!

I am jumping into and out of different cars/trucks all the time. I would like to automate Bluetooth, GPS, poor maps, etc. with NFC tags that are glued to the car holder. This shall turn off WiFi, turn on Bluetooth connection, GPS and 4G. And when I leave the car it shall go back to "normal" and turn off GPS and Bluetooth and turn Wifi on.

I have read about the trouble with TOH and NFC and that it is turned off at some point so you can't scan NFC tags.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance!

Cheers!

AFAIK the problem with NFC and Jolla 1 was that NFC was solely used for TOH recognition and not available for other interaction. However as Jolla 1 is already legacy and the future of Jolla seems to be Sailfish X I think it should be possible to get NFC for interaction in some forseeable future. And if so, maybe situations app will provide NFC based situations...

@Moo-Crumpus

Reading the blog is of no help to the OP, who makes no mention of SonyX/SailfishX, but he does refer to TOH, which implies Jolla1.

Hi Edz, could you please define the abbreviation "OP"? I have read many postings and comments lately with a lot of abbreviations which I don't understand right. Thanks!

@ds1979 - OP = Original Poster

I know what you mean about abbreviations, I'm still learning myself.

Situations does not reakt one NFC tags, which would be a nice feature by the way. So you need to have Bluetooth on the whole time. I don't think, this is waht was intended in original post.

Well, I suppose you'd need something like the NFC Interactor, very nice MeeGo app that was.

The problem is, I highly doubt there will be something that powerful for Sailfish. Of course you could use android app like NFC Tools (that is, if the NFC would work in android apps), but I also have my doubts about it being able to change Sailfish system-wide settings like wireless interfaces state.

So, writing a custom script seems to me the only viable option. As far as I know, people quite often use pcsc (or some variation of it, I'm not awfully competent in that area) to read NFC tags in Linux. So I suppose you would have to trigger the script with udev event (or wherever nfc chip would tell the system that it is enabled) and listen to pcsc output. If that would contain data of certain tag — then call rfkill to do whatever you want with the wireless.

Easier said than done.

The NFC is locked down to only be used in conjunction with 'the other half', nothing else. There are some clever people frequenting this forum, yet I've not seen any evidence of any user developing/creating anything for use with NFC.
