I was wondering, if it may be possible to use an alternative unlock screen to unlock the Jolla. Android has some kind of swiping unlock screen and e.g. win8 offers those pictures with gestures for unlocking.
So, is it possible to provide an api to access unlocking of device and/or are there plans to provide alternatives from Jolla?

I'd suggest the following alternative:
instead of showing the dialpad, the circle used for time input could be shown and digits could be entered by letting finger rotate forth and back like on old fashioned safes.
There has to be a switch for accessing dialpad of course in order to be still able to enter emergency call numbers...
I'm not sure about being slower. Could be of course and wouldn't surprise me, but maybe it's faster. Ich have a 7 digits code for now and sometimes I misstype and have to delete the input thus having to type 7-9 or 11 times. Without the need to lift the finger from screen, maybe the accuracy is better.

How about to add "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) buttons also to those lockscreen widgets? Simple buttons which will dial to user most important numbers.
sounds like a good idea, and actually, storing an ICE in your contacts only would make sense if the ICE number was availbable without having to unlock the phone.
However, if your phone got stolen, the thief would have access to the ICE contact.
On the other hand, if your phone got lost and would be found by a nice and honest person, that person could call your ICE contact and let you know your phone is "doing well"

What about using "direction gestures"?
Example: swipe up, swipe down, swipe down, swipe left (it could also have diagonal gestures)
Pressing and holding on the screen is reset. which resets the swiping action if you entered it wrong.
This has its advantages: No need to look at the screen could be done without having precisely coordination, since it can be done on the whole screen :)
There could be a button at the bottom to activate emergency calling/dialer.

Screen lockers are regrettably patent encumbered. Coming up with a novel solution may be hard.
A simple API to enable others to provide screen unlockers may be one solution. Jolla are in a very different legal position to someone releasing a possibly free app on the app-store. The chances of Google or Apple taking action against the latter is almost zero.
