Hi everybody!

i would like to exclude certain directories from the media tracker. i'm having lots of music files on sd card and to save space on the device i also store my podcast files there.

the media tracker searches for all sound files and thus includes the podcast files too so that these podcast files clog the display of the media tracker. obviously the producers of these podcast don't care much about tags in their soundfiles.

i would like to exclude the directory with the podcast from the tracker or limit the tracker to the music directory. i dimly remember that way back there was a config file for the tracker but i might be wrong with that.

i wonder if anybody could help me with that problem

The Tracker should ignore all directories containing a file .nomedia (its content is irrelevant, hence an empty file created with touch .nomedia is sufficient) and all "hidden" files and directories (i.e. ones starting with a ".").

BTW, I haven't tested this for a long time, e.g. if a .nomedia file in a directory also covers all its subdirectories (I would assume so).

thanks for this info.

unluckily it did't work. it should have worked though. but i couldn't start the reinidexing because the sailfish utility for the tracker crashed every time (_error_!) and trying to force the reindexing by deleting the /home/nemo/.cache/tracker/* files and rebooting lead to timeouts of the tracker-processes and an enormous amount of errors in journalctl like this

Mar 29 15:27:31 Sailfish tracker-store[2631]: GLIB WARNING ** Tracker - Journal replay error: 'Unable to insert multiple values for subject (null)' and single valued propertydc:publisher' (old_value: '119846', new value: '119846')

looks to me like the media player is broken.

Well, it does work (under SailfishOS 2.1.4 on a Jolla 1 phone).
But as the Tracker seems to be somewhat "flaky", I just leave it alone.

might have been correct 4 years ago these answers you mentioned. with sailfish 2.1.4 and the actual version of media and tracker and such, this is incorrect. this old soultion doesn't work anymore.

hey, but good you closed this. one problem less .

I didn't close the issue. I just marked it as duplicate. Feel free to remove it, but I'd prefer to have one common place, digging through different post for the same takes more time.

@magullo, "Marking as a duplicate" is a choice offered when selecting "Close" and hence implies closing a question (as you can see above).
