Dear all, I am trying to save my data from my broken JP1. Now I have a new JP1 and would like to insert the old phone memory into the new phone, so I can copy/backup the data. I found this link Jolla Teardown but don't know if the memory is part of the circuit board (step 9) or the small circuit board (step 10). Or maybe none of those? Appreciate your help/comments/ideas...

The emmc is under the shield caps. Here you can find some exposed photos: https://articles.forensicfocus.com/2016/09/14/meeting-a-forensic-challenge-recovering-data-from-a-jolla-smartphone/

And if I were in your situation (what I definietly would not like to) I would not try to solder the emmc to a new phone but would try to use alternative readback metjods like this: https://hackaday.com/2017/07/12/emmc-to-sd-hack-rescues-data-from-a-waterlogged-phone/

Thank you martonmiklos. Replacing the emmc looks a bit too advanced to me indeed. So I gues I'll try your second suggestion. The first article is really good and detailed but somehow I believe that none of the phones would work after my intervention :)

Are you sure that there is no way to recover your data through the USB port?

For EMMC desoldering you will need proper equipment (hot air soldering station, flux, preheater) otherwise you will damage your phone and your EMMC chip together with your data as well.

Well, the point is I cannot operate the phone because the display is not working. There is no crack but it just does not response. So, when I turn on the phone I get stuck in the step of entering the PIN code. Unfortunatelly, nothing happens when I plug the phone to the computer. It just starts charging. When I take out the SIM, the phone starts but again when plugged to the computer, I cannot choose to use it as a mass storage and it just starts charging. If you have any other idea what could be done, I'll immediately try it out.

If you happen to have an another phone why not just swap the displays temprary?

An at the another hand there is a recovery mode which could be used to dump the rootfs to an uSD card see: https://together.jolla.com/question/34154/copy-media-pictures-video-in-recovery-mode/
