Hello everyone.
I am new to this platform and if this was already asked, please guide me to the correct place. I am currently using a BB10 device, and I am thinking that Sailfish would be a good alternative for when my BB10 device will become obsolete. Where could I find information about what devices can run Sailfish and a tutorial how to install it? Thank you!

Hi and welcome to the Sailfish community :)
If you want to use a device which is officially supported by Jolla right now, I'd recommend the Xperia X with Sailfish X - see: https://jolla.com/sailfishx/. There you find detailed tutorials on how to install it. Sailfish X needs to be purchased, but includes support for Android apps (similar to BB10) and other extras like Exchange support.
In case you can wait a little bit longer, Jolla will be offering a supported image for the Xperia XA2. Have a look at this blog post, which also talks about other devices which are or will be supported in the future: https://blog.jolla.com/wrapping-up-mwc18/
Older phones which still receive regular updates are the original Jolla1 and the JollaC.

I can wait a little longer, the Passport SE is still my primary device. I have seen that Sailfish it's going to be available officially on more devices and seeing some on Youtube, I thought that step is already done. I'll have a look on the links you posted. I am thinking to learn programming if time will allow me to do it, and from what I found until now, Sailfish looks like a nice idea to learn how to have most of control on my own device.

Later this year Jolla will release Sailfish 3 which should bring several new features with a rather big focus on security. Having control of my own device and access to whatever I want, like on a typical Linux distribution, is also one of the main reasons I prefer to use Sailfish.

I was myself a BB10 diehard, used my Q10 then my Classic a lot. Then I tried the KEYone and I was simply disgusted about that phone chained with Android and Google supervision, even with the BlackBerry tools. The BB soul is now sold to the devil, there's no turning back.
I moved towards Sailfish OS last october with the Xperia X and I have no regrets. It is my daily driver now and the sole thing I miss from BlackBerry is the physical keyboard. The VKB from Sailfish X is really good though.
Yeah, Sailfish OS is far from perfect. But the main difference is here : while BB10 is EOL and will die slowly as the months go away, with its apps breaking one after the other... Sailfish OS gets updates and keeps improve itself, with a lot of great, aesthetic apps and a very good Android compatibility.
Jump in and sail with us, BB buddy, you won't be disappointed.

Thank you all for the information.
I really hope this would be a fun project (preparing my Sailfish future while being a BB10 "diehard"). Maybe Sailfish is not mature enough, but with time it can be.
My current plan is to purchase a cheap second hand android device and start learning what I can do with it together with Sailfish OS. Since I am talking about "swimming in the large ocean without knowing how to swim", any advice is welcomed.

I think Sailfish OS is mature enough. I have used daily ever since Jolla1. Okay, you kinda have to use another browser (i.e. Webcat, or Firefox on Android support) and Bluetooth works barely adequately for my purposes, but as a phone, SMS/MMS device, camera, mail and basic Internet browser, it works very well. If you don't restrict yourself to SFOS native apps only (i.e. refuse to use Android support and all the available Android apps), you almost certainly well be able to do all the things you need.
Give it a spin, I'd say :)

I am joking, in the worse case scenario I am just going to try and see what will result from this. I recently started to learn some python programming with Raspberry pi, maybe I can make some projects with Sailfish in the future. Does Sailfish have a Python interpreter built in?

lolek ( 2018-06-13 10:45:21 +0300 )edit@lolek: I don't want to defend Sailfish nor deny the issues you mentioned - criticism is extremely important and there are also other things which don't work yet 100% on Sailfish or are missing. I take the freedom to share my opinion about the issues you mentioned:
I think everyone who switches to Sailfish should be aware that there's no big company behind the system. The core developer team is tiny and a lot is done via community contributions - so obviously it's not possible to expect the same support BB10 had from Blackberry for a (unfortunately) short time. Yet the system has matured a lot and it's absolutely no problem to use it as an everyday mobile OS with it's own benefits.
