Hello together,

i bought a xperia x for my girlfirend. It was easy to flash it and everything works, very nice.

O.k. not everything: I can install many apps from the store (i thinks its the playstore for sailfish or something) but if i try to install Öffi https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.schildbach.oeffi&hl=de it gives me an error message. It looks "normal". At thirs i click on downlaod, the black screen with the android install screen appears and i can click on install on this black screen. The install bar is displayed for some seconds (only approx. 3) and after this there is a text like "the app is not installed". No more information.

I tryed to reseth the phone and to restart android support. Nothing helped at this time.

Can someone help me to find out why it is like this and how i can change this?

Thank you

Thoys

First of all: There is no "playstore for Sailfish", in fact Google is actively blocking Sailfish devices in the newer versions of Play Store (though there is the possibility to install, freeze and use an older version for now). You probably mean the Appstore available after the initial installation, which is Aptoide if I recall correctly.

Oeffi comes in two versions: the main one, which relies on some Google Maps API, and an "AOSP" version meant for devices without the Google Services installed (which is the case for Sailfish with Android Support). It's possible the version you can install via the Appstore is the "main" version and fails to install because the GApps dependency is missing.

You can download and install the APK of Oeffi from the official website: https://oeffi.schildbach.de/download.html, make sure to select the "-aosp" version (currently, it is "Öffi 9.07.6-aosp"). I never encountered any issue with the AOSP version on Sailfish.

Hello Ghling,

You probably mean the Appstore available after the initial installation, which is Aptoide if I recall correctly.

Exactly :-)

Oeffi comes in two versions: the main one, which relies on some Google Maps API, and an "AOSP" version meant for devices without the Google Services installed (which is the case for Sailfish with Android Support). It's possible the version you can install via the Appstore is the "main" version and fails to install because the GApps dependency is missing.

Sad, that the google Services, that are installed in sailfish is not enough.

You can download and install the APK of Oeffi from the official website

Cool, i can download it from the official homepage and not with a apk-download-tool.

But why is it possible to install it on my intex Aquafish and not on the xperia x?

Thanks a lot and greetings to switzerland,

Thoys

I can't really tell you why the version from Aptoid works on your Aqua Fish. It may be the case that it has a slightly different version of AlienDalvik (the Android Emulation) if I recall correctly. Personally, I never fancied anything Google-related on my Sailfish phone (otherwise, I could just use an Android device, right?) and always removed the Google service Apps that come with the default installation as soon as possible. Nevertheless, I can tell you that I never had any issues with the AOSP version of Oeffi, neither on my (Jolla C converted) Aqua Fish nor on my Xperia X which I'm using since the release of Sailfish X. The only downside of installing it from the website is that there is no update mechanism, you always have to manually check the website and install new versions from there.

Hei, on the one side it is very consequent not to use google. (I think its perfekt) But for my girlfriend i try to give her a phone that is an alternative to android (etc.) and works with most of the apps. So she can swift to sailfish in a slow way.

I made what you said. I installed ist from the homepage with an apk file. I have to update it manually but it works well.

Thanks for your help

Thoys

If I've understood correctly Aqua Fish has Google Play Services pre-installed. SailfishX has not. That may be the reason why the app works in one phone but in the other.

Hi hetas, no. If you start your sony the first time it ask you if you wanna install google services and the store. So on both devices are the google services installed. Other Android apps run without problems, but the öffi makes some problems.

Do i need google Services for running android apps or is it only for android apps at all, that needs spezial google services?

Thanks

I have Sony Xperia X and it does have Android support, meaning Alien Dalvik, but it does not have Google Play Services.

I've understood from comments on this forum that Aqua Fish has Play Services installed. I don't have first hand knowledge, though. Some Android apps require Google Play Services to work.

You can find instructions on this forum how to install play services to SailfishX unofficially.

It does not really answer your question, but did you also try out the native Sailfish app "Fahrplan"? I actually prefer it over Oeffi.

@thoys: In addition to direc's anwser: Have a look at F-Droid. It offers a number of very useful OpenSource Apps. Among them is Transportr which I use in case the already mentioned Fahrplan does not provide the public transport organisation.
As already mentioned, some Apps (the most?) from the Play Store rely on Google Services which are not (natively) available on Sailfish OS and Sailfish X. Using OpenSource Apps would get rid of these Google dependencies.

And for using Play Store Apps without having the official Store available: That can also be done with the help of F-Droid. Checkout my comment to another question
