Was looking through the changelog and noticed references to "device/sony/apollo" which if my google-fu is correct refers to the Xperia XZ2 Compact.
Is this goingt to be supported??

Unofficial port for Sony Xperia Tama devices is released. Currently for XZ2 only, but we will work on adding support for all devices in the family: XZ2c and XZ3 included, single/dual sim variants

I'll bump this -trying to build hype on the fresh release and device- with a small and early review of SFOS on the Xperia XZ2 Compact.
The Hardware
In many ways this is the device Jolla should have made to complement the gesture based interaction of SFOS if history had taken a different course and were producing hardware these days.
Its a bit taller (4mm), less wide and a bit fatter than the J1. However the curved back that tapers as it moves closer to the edge making it feel better in the hand and interacting with it. It has a 5 inch screen, many MegaPixel cameras as most Sony phones and a metal frame construction that makes it feel premium. A bit heavy though.
However this being a Sony device -one of the companies that IMO will always have messed something- it means it comes with a few drawbacks. The buttons on the device are a bit awkwardly placed and don't feel as premium as the rest of the phone. But it is what it is. If someone made the bezels smaller, the whole phone flat and thinner and made the buttons feel nice when pressing them i would be talking about the perfect SFOS phone.
On the GPU/CPU side it uses previous generation hi end chips, so it is fast, nearing the performance of the current hi end Sony devices (according to benchmarks on gsmarena at least). This makes by far faster than any Officially supported by Jolla Sony phone. Of course it also is a more expensive device but anyone can decide for himself what worths a price (speed, support, form factor etc).
The Software
The current version is 3.2.0.12 (Torronsuo). Its the good old Sailfish OS you love (or love to hate). I don't have much to say here. Everyone reading this probably is familiar with the operating system and knows how it works and where it lacks behind. The phone is fast enough and has no trouble with the OS.
As for features nearly everything works. You have to remember this is a community port and we are early in the process of making it run as good as possible. The two biggest issues at the time are two. The camera quality and the lack of fingerprint reading support.
The camera quality is related to the work being done by Sony on their open devices program so as this gets improved the quality of the camera in SFOS will also become better. They have already made progress using a newer kernel.
As for the fingerprint support i was surprised to learn that is one of the closed parts of SFOS meaning it can't be used on the community ported phones. So we either have to write an open source alternative or get jolla to help us. No idea what will happen though.
To Conclude
If you hate the way phones are designed today, want something that will fit in a normal human hand, appreciate one hand interaction and can live with the bugs/issues the port has at the moment then probably you have to consider buying and using one. Think of it as a J1 with premium materials.

@ApB, @rinigus: thank you both for your effort! I feel like Apostolos, that is, the XZ2 compac is so far the only high spec phone that fits my hands for one-handed use. Since SFOS also in many ways supports one-handed use, XZ2 compact and SFOS should be a perfect complement. The XZ2 compact is the only phone that I bought for its form factor and performance. But since it so far only runs Android, I never placed a SIM Card in it but rather used it as a small camera and media player. I'll flash it with SFOS even if this degrades the camera (which is quite good, BTW)

It is a new port, i've been using it as a daily for very little time and probably there are bugs that haven't been exposed yet. Of course i won't stop anyone from flashing it if he feels adventurous -and for sure we could use a few more testers- but whoever does it must be aware of what he is about to get into.

Necrobumping this cause i noticed that sony xz2 was added to the sony devices in the wiki (https://wiki.merproject.org/wiki/Adaptations/libhybris)
XZ2 compact is the same (?) HW so will it be possible to install SFOS there without many issues??

I ported Sailfish to XZ2 and I am preparing the first release. It's build in a way that adding support for all variants of XZ2, XZ2 compact, and XZ3 should be simple. Hardware is from the same platform and care was taken to make the builds automated as much as I could.
In short, some assistance from XZ2 compact maybe needed to find proper touch device and maybe check few other things, but the rest should be simple to add. If all goes to plan, I will make announcement on XDA and TMO regarding it. Maybe here as well, in corresponding topics

XZ2 is a very attractive device in my eyes and I would be very happy if this would be supported!
