Sailfish: still unlike or becomimg alike?
Version 1 was really unlike, we got a very uncommon and well designed consist UI. Smart for one hand using, left or right hand didn't made a difference.
Version 2 got the top android like status bar, the adroid like carousel but was still unlike because we got a tablet UI on a phone (no dialer, contacts... at the bottom, now on the top left edge)
Version 3 got the android like top dropdown, nearly the similar design like my old AOSP slimRom, with the round buttons. The gallery got the left upper button, which isn't reachable at all, but makes the design more balanced. I like the new gallery more, then the old one except the button on the upper left, the biggest mistake which came from apple, of course with the small displays. This got copied from android, the very end for one hand use with the big screens...I'm impressed how UI designers do not think, just copy.
Some years ago, all designers try to design for newbies, people which are new on computers, even there wasn't anymore any beginners left around, then they start to design like the major platforms (copy) for users which wanna switch the system, but hold on: Why they wanna switch? To get the same?
I'm fine with Sailfish as long as I get updates for security issues, even the development is far too slow for fixing or finishing things instead of making funny shining UI baubles. In the meantime I peer to the UBports project, hoping this will go faster for my next device.
This is a close relative of https://together.jolla.com/question/192071/make-sailfish-ui-consistent-and-easy-again-please/
Nevertheless a good read :)

And I forgot one very long annoying behavior: The color chooser on the ambience setting page drives me crazy...I got out about 50 of 16 million colors.
poddl ( 2018-11-15 02:05:19 +0200 )editI have same opinion, new gallery needs rework as top menu also. I will be very glad if they change them to more unlike like early sailfish days.
These changes makes me even mad, because unlike is going to be wiped out, as also innovations and consistency.
Jolla not need simplify the ui for new users that's totally wrong way, even learning sailfish 1 isn't that hard to familiarize. Sailfish 1 was just genius to use of course it wasn't perfect, as nothing is perfect.
Afterall I hate even more(other reasons exsist) this people amount, it's serios problem..
Jk ( 2018-11-15 09:24:57 +0200 )editOh boy, and I thought the 'unlike' nonsense had finally faded...
nthn ( 2018-11-15 22:52:58 +0200 )editSo basically people here think Jolla should pass up on a very useful and for many people frequently used feature just to be unlike? And new users should be able to learn a more complicated, but NOT more powerful way of doing things just because you are unable to learn a single new gesture?
