Hi there,

nowadays a lot of Smartwatch devices are out there. Probably some of you have already devices. As i like doing sports I have one of those famous vendors (Garmin, Fitbit, Polar, ...) out there. And those vendors all have Android apps available which connect via bluetooth to the devices and use internet connection for cloud sync purposes.

Now is was wondering: Can Sailfish 3's new updated Android engine be enabled to allow Android apps use the bluetooth stack (unlike AlienDalvik) in order to connect to the bluetooth device and then sync?

Meaning the underlying idea to allow Android apps to connect via bluetooth in general to devices out there. I would believe the Android apps bring all the business logic needed...

please look here: AsteroidOS and here: Sailfish Watch

We need to push this idea towards Jolla, and hopefully more people with appropriate skillz and enthusiasm within the Jolla community take up this task to develop asap.

Yes, some information about Bluetooth support in the upgraded Android engine would be nice. I'm not holding my breath though...

Supported. :) Also Galaxy wearables app for Samsung smart watches should be working with Sailfish X etc.

@N9Sailfish that would be great news! Do you have any link with this info?

@thisisme Excuse me for an improper expression. It should be 'ought to be' instead of 'should be'. Thus still waiting for.

How about getting interested devs with such devices to contribute to https://github.com/piggz/harbour-amazfish ? A native fitness/notification app using BLE supporting the amazfit bip, and to some extent some other huami devices. Just needs the devs to write the code to add support for more device types.

Interesting there ist at least someone who thinks about a native app. Nonetheless status quo given and "just needs dev to write the code" I am realistically don't think that will happen that soon. To me it seams to be fairly in an initial state...

I don't know that much what is done there but probably a dev who knows may could comment if that is some feasible right approach to go for bluetooth support for smart devices?

Or are there even other thoughts ?

This is valid, too, when the app is able to communicate / produce synchronization with Android and Tizen devices.

SUMMARY / CONCLUSION

Dear Jolla and all software programmers,

Shortly it is noticed that there are no user interfaces for different Android smart and smartwatch devices and services attached to different SFOS smart phones. Meanwhile there exist allready increasinly growing interests and needs towards those different user interfaces [1]. Without these both Android and also own apps by Sailfish, huge problems for SFOS UI are expected to be realized. Also lack of bluetooth support for those Android Apps is a serious matter related to the previous, too [1-3]. Jolla, what are you doing to solve these critical problems? There have to be alternatives for all SFOS users. Just impressing security point of views shall isolate SFOS from the reality and real world. Was this the original meaning? Thus, Sailfish OS is at the moment virtual - it's disconnecting people and services.

At least a starting point would be what hooks are available within SFOS3 and the new Android engine? Is there a hook at all?

There have to be ... All might depend on the mystical libraries, the drivers, and lately but not least, the will of Jolla. And next: Jolla we will stay listening you! The silence is not effective marketing.

I think Jolla is going to shoot it's own leg if these android smart devices are abandoned. Yes, security is important, but SFOS user, who wants to, should have right to use / choose with own risk also these android devices. Also increse in business should be taken into account as mentioned above. Please Jolla provide us modified android support.

Software and system evolve and fail the within the grade they support net effects. For example, would someone ever have voted for Sailfish without Android support? We all know the answer as some apps/stuff support is mandatory/crucial for users.

Smart devices / smartwatches are maybe not yet - but it will not take that much more time this is exactly the same scenario. Ultimately you might end in an scandinavian country and try to pay you bill - but your smartphone is not ready ;)

It will not take that much more time and so many stuff will happen using coms like bluetooth and NFC - so be ready for the future is my call. Get this stuff please on.

Yes, without Android support nearly 0. We should have more votes for this item. Without votes no-one notes this. In Samsung they just says that SFOS is not supported. Thus we need to have eg. Galaxy Wearables etc. ported to SFOS for at least notifications shall work after pairing watch and phone.

To be fair, I'd rather have native BLE support in SFOS patched up and allowed in Harbour, so we could make native apps.

All suits that works. Not any limitations. :)
