As benchmarks are being released, we see a Xperia XA3 (and XA3 Ultra) on the horizon.

The good news about it from Qualcomm is that the Snapdragon 660 in the XA3 is pin and software compatible with the Snapdragon 630 in the XA2. The fingerprint sensor moved from the back to the side (guess more practical too)

When Sony is releasing them in the Open Devices program, it wouldn't be to hard for Jolla to add them to their official supported line (looking that all the work that is currently done for the XA2 series). Jolla will be able to support these phones closer to their release date.

Bring it on!

Rumors talk about 5.9 to 6.5 inch screens... I anticipate mass rebellions in the SFOS community.

@Giacomo Di Giacomo oh yeah, absolutely! how dare they offer more option - especially for people with other personal preferences :D

@JSE looking at the 660 specs vs the 630 i see a lot of differences... different CPU designs (from cortex to semi custom cortex), different gpu, different dsp and different camera dsp, possibly different ram setup, but also different wlan chip... sounds like a lot of different new drivers and some architectureal changes...

i dont really see how this would be different from porting any other completely new device...

@misc11 Yes, the XA3 looks more like a successor for the X rather than the XA2.

At the time Jolla is ready for make SFOS 3/4 usable for XA 3 ,its outdated i think . Especially when u look how Jolla introduced there half product , and not realy update status or communicate ,lets hope for better!

Any *compact device would be soooo welcome, I now have the X because I had to get a newer device but this is really the last upsize I'm willing to have, SailfishOS gestures are supposed to allow for single handed use of the phone and with these larger and larger phones that is just getting harder and harder.

(I would love something the size of the Nokia N9)

And I don't mind if they support both a large and a small device for both sides of the debate just not this mindless move to larger and larger.

You are able to use official SFOS image inofficially on Xperia X compact if you'd like to get a downsize again.

So happy to downvote anyone crying about screens being too big! You must have really tiny hands - and you know what that implies, don't you? Aww, I'm so sorry!

So get an N9 if you want to live in the past! Or better yet, a Nokia 3210! Now there's a screen size even someone like you can't complain about!

So unhappy that I'm not able to downvote comments. If you want a bigger screen go and get a tablet. A smartphone is still a phone and most of the smartphone nowadays produced are too big for that purpose. But somehow all those sheeps out there just buy those big phones because they don't think about what they need, but only trust in what the ads make them believe they need.

Complete BS! A 6.5" screen devce is not in any way shape or form too big to use as a phone! Have you tried measuring the distance from your ear to your mouth? Maybe you have a little head and little brain too?

I have never seen an ad for a phone and I don't give a flying you-know-what about your totally subjective and flawed opinion. And by the looks of it, neither do most people - or consumer demand would drive the creation of these little mini phones that you seem so obsessed with. Small mobile phones haven't been a thing since the 90's and will hopefully never be again, so get with the times, luddite!

BTW I didn't ask no big screens, I asked that the small screen side of things also get some love and I am by far the only one in the community who would like to have a device that allows me to use it with just the hand holding it like the N9 and the Jolla1 to a lesser extent and fits in my pocket without needing to buy pants with extra big pockets.

Do not bring it on! As xperia xa2 is little bit dissapointment when comparing xperia x, for example still old usb 2 port in xa2.. Usb 3.2 is recent version and still 2018 phone inclues ancient usb2. Well sure xa2 is mid range phone that explains these specs. Sure Xa2 have few good points like newer linux kernel 4.4, bigger battery and little bit efficient cpu. It's not enought unfortunately.

One of the greatest thing what I missing is oled display. Second feature could be waterproofness.

So afterall I would like see and buy more high end device. There is none currently,

It's not "must be" flagship model, something +500€ device would be enought, Like Xperia x was higher mid range device.

But I ask myself - advocatus diaboli - who will be mad enough to buy a new device for EUR 500++ just to instantly void the warranty when flashing SFOS onto it?

@lakutalo depending on where you live (e.g. Europe) the warranty void is only for the software. And who needs warranty on Android anyway? Hardware is still covered, no matter what the manufacturer claims. Of course, it would often be easier to claim warranty on a stock device, that's why Jolla strongly advises to test the device thoroughly running stock Android to check for defects, before flashing Sailfish.

I wouldn't bet my two sausages on that. :) Anyway, to be completely accepted there should be rather a more sophisticated installer that saves the complete previous state of the phone before spreading ketchup and delicious mustard on it, as for any reason you (as a John Doe user) should always be able to easily restore the original setup.

At least a grahical installer is on it's way. We have to wait until they publish the promised SFOS 3 Roadmap for more details and timings.

@lakutalo Smartphone prices drops very quickly now days so I think that's not peoblem anyways you just keep using old phone until you get new devide reasonable price. And I would be that guy who flash new device with sailfish ;)

Fortunately as Fuzzillogic said warranty isn't problem when speaking about hardware warranty. Even when you not "completly properly" restore originial state of smartphone eg. drm keys. Simple because Warranty employees not check that.

Yes, MWC this month… I remember last year, and we all expected to see a fully completed Sailfish 3 in Q3. But we are still waiting…

I like my XA2 even more with Sailfish than with Android (had been no Android User before the test of XA2), but the main problem of Sailfish OS is this camera - as well as there are just low and mid class devices with mid class hardwarw cameras and also a very rudimemental camera Software/app. Camera stopps me from using Sailfish XA2 as daily Driver...

And some words about XA3: It's much to long. XA2, Lumia 650/950, iPhone 6/7/8 are devices with a good form factor.
