BLE HRM support on XA2

I'm trying to pair my Polar H6 HR monitor to my XA2 Ultra Dual (H4233) running the latest version of Sailfish X (3.0.1.14) It can't find the device. It seems that bluetooth support for heart rate monitors has not been implemented yet.

Heart rate sensors have been part of bluetooth since 2011 and for me they are essential in using my phone. I exercise every day and I'd like to be able to use my phone for fitness tracking. HR monitor registration is essential for this, but is impossible without support for this kind of sensor.

Please add support for HR monitors over bluetooth

Please keep in mind that BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy, also called Bluetooth Smart) and classic Bluetooth are two entirely different protocols, that only share "Bluetooth" in the name, because the same consortium is putting out both standard.

" Pairing " doesn't work in the same way on both.

The Bluetooth tool of Sailfish is used only to make a pairing of classic Bluetooth device.

Gaining access to a BLE device is completely different and require a different approach. The sport tracking app Laufhelden recommanded by pigg has the necessary bit to establish a connection to a BLE HRM. (e.g.: I'm using one with it).

Laufhelden support BLE HRMs, one of the sailfish porters is also working on a generic BLE HRM app iirc. My own app, amazfish support the standard HRM service on the Bip watch, and it wouldnt take a great amount of effort to separate that out.

No offense but the topics you link to are essentially dead. No relevant updates have been made in those topics in years. I don't consider them to be relevant any longer.

@magullo I respectfully disagree. Very old threads which are not acted upon lose their relevance.

Besides that, this is specifically about the support for HRMs. There's many BLE related profiles you can choose to offer. This request is for the implementation of those BLE profiles required to get HRMs working, not a complete implementation of all possible BLE profiles and associated services.

So not a real BLE support, which can only be activated on a kernel.

I need to be able to connect to the sensor before any apps come into play. The sensor can't be paired because the device isn't even listed when trying to pair it.

Yes, you'll need to buy another device(non BLE). No offence, but if you're looking to get support on Sailfish for these 'niche' devices you will have to install Android back. I'm no expert, but I think that getting proper BLE support on sailfish is more then just compiling / activating it in the kernel as normal Bluetooth also isn't 100%.

@yomark BLE HR monitors are anything but niche. They're pretty much the standard ever since 2013. That's like 6 years.

All my garmin sport gear & sensors are also following BLE. I would very much like to have support for this as well. It has been stated that BLE should be supported by sailfish 3, but I must admit I lost a bit of faith..

I can confirm Laufhelden , xperiaX , suunto smart sensor works ok , since 24.12 update of Laufhelden

How do you pair it? My H6 is not recognised from the list of devices on my XA2 when I try to pair a new device in the BT settings. I'm not using the android layer (nor will I ever, the intent with this phone is to become 100% detached from google)

I have not been able to works the Suunto sensor on Xperia xa2.

Have you tried searching for the device in the Laufhelden App? As DrYak wrote, pairing on BLE devices is a bit different.

Yes, it works now. I searching for the device alone in the Laufhelden App and waited long enough for heart rate information.
