Can Android apps on Sailfish use Google Cloud Messaging (GCM)? What are the other platform alternatives?

From here: Step 1 - Set up Google Play Services (and later "Check for Google Play Services APK") Since Jolla don't officially support Google Play Services (not yet, anyway) I guess the answer for GCM is "no". I don't know about any alternatives, sorry.
